Killzone 2 Walkthru Part V: Salamun Bridge

[This is the fifth of a series of Killzone 2 walkthrus we'll be publishing, all with videos and all written by gamer Alex Juel. If you have questions about the game, please don't hesitate to post them here and Alex will do his best to answer them. If you haven't already read it, start with Killzone 2: Corinth River, Killzone 2: Blood Meridian, Killzone 2: Visari Square, and Killzone 2: Salamun District and stay tuned for subsequent parts, too!]

Here's a summary of the game's storyline (courtesy of Wikipedia): Killzone 2 is set on the planet Helghan, the home-world of the Helghast who invaded an Interplanetary Strategic Alliance (ISA) colony. Two years after the Helghast assault on Vekta, the ISA has launched an assault on the enemy's homeworld. The ISA goal is to capture the Helghast leader, Scolar Visari, and bring the Helghast war machine to a halt.

In the game you assume the role of Sergeant Tomas "Sev" Sevchenko, a battle-hardened veteran of the special forces unit Alpha Team, who are on a mission to eliminate the Helghast threat. During the invasion, Sev's unit is deployed behind enemy lines to assist the main invasion force. Responsible for securing the enemy capital of Pyrrhus, the team quickly discovers that the Helghast are a formidable enemy. Not only have they adjusted to Helghan's hostile conditions, they have also harnessed the power of the frequent lightning storms.

A cold, barren, unforgiving world, Helghan provides a ready defense with thick, acidic air, dust clouds, and violent lightning storms. Sev discovers his squad is not just fighting enemy forces - their fiercest opponent may be the planet itself.

Now, ready to get started? Great!

Dave's Answer:

Bridge East

The easiest way to take the bridge is by continuosly moving forward. As you move forward, so does your team and the tank, so if you don't move, the Helghast will keep coming.

I found that running along the left side of the bridge provides the best cover. Move up as fast as you can and you should be able to take this section quickly.

Rico will give orders for you to go under the bridge and lower the gate. Follow the ISA team member through the gate on the left side of the bridge down below to the ground.

Air Defense 22-12ILC

As soon as you can, take out the AA gun way in the back, because it'll seem almost impossible to move forward while it's attacking you. The best place to take cover is behind the short concrete wall in the beginning of this section.

If you don't move forward from here, Helghast will keep coming. so once the Helghast on the AA gun is down, make your way towards the gun, kill all the enemies left over and man the AA gun.

After getting on the gun, there will be several Helghast on the docks behind you and then many more coming out from all the broken down shacks.

After clearing the area, run to where the Helghast were just coming from, go the back and go up the stairs. Go all the way up and turn the valve to lower the bridge. Wait for your team to cross the bridge and Garza will open the door for you.

Bridge West

As you move forward on the bridge, so does the ISA tank and your teamates so move up quickly if you can. The right side of the bridge seemed to provide the best cover.

If you can sprint all the way up, you can clear this area really quick. Go up into the towers and kill the Helghast with the missile launcher.

Head back down to your team in front of the bridge and meet Garza behind the buggy.

SYMBOL! Stop at the front of the steps leading to Radec Academy and look up above the doors where you'll find a symbol.

SYMBOL! After running through the doors, turn completely around where you'll find another symbol right above the doors.

INTEL CASE! In this same entryway, walk up the steps, turn right and look behind the very last column. The intel case will be on the floor.

Radec Academy

There's an ambush waiting for you on the other side of the doors leading to the next room. You can enter this section from the main doors on the first floor or the from the left and right stairs going up to the secong floor, but niether entryways seemed any easier to me.

There are a couple of Helghast on the second floor with missile launchers, so make sure you have cover for protection as you clear the area.

SYMBOL! After killing all of the Helghast, wait in front of the doors at the opposite end of the doors that you came in. Look up and find a symbol above the doors. Once all of the members of your team meet up, Rico will kick in the doors.

INTEL CASE! Go up the stairs and into Radecs office. You'll find an intel case sitting on his desk. Grab it before you're attacked by the ATAC because you won't have an opportunity to grab it again.

Academy Rooftop

On the rooftop, hide behind the concrete structure while the ATAC is shooting. When it stops, run off of either side of the room and you'll find a hallway the runs between both sides near the bottom of the stairs.

This hallway will provide enough cover to protect you during the entire battle if you stay away from the windows.

In the middle of the hallway, pick up the missile launcher sitting on the ground. Now switch to your handgun and run to either end of the hallway. When the ATAC is on the side of the bridge, shoot one of the blue electrical things to electricute and disable it.

Quickly switch back to the missile launcher and shoot it, then switch back to the handgun and shoot another electrical thing. If you time it correctly, you can kill the ATAC in this one short pass.

Great! You're, what, about half way... stay tuned for more walkthru help on Killzone 2
