How can I stop spammers friending me on MySpace?

I'm going just a bit crazy with MySpace. The latest is that whenever I log in, I have dozens of friend requests, but they're all from spammers or weirdoes. Is there some way to make it harder for the automated spam tools to send friend requests? Please?

Dave's Answer:

You're in luck, actually, because spam is not only an ongoing problem for the MySpace service (and every other social networking service) but the MySpace team have been working on solutions too, and there are new features introduced every month.

I know because when I logged in to MySpace a few days ago and went through my friend requests, there were a couple that were clearly spammers, with porn pics as their profiles and idiotic account names like "best beach diet plan" and such. Bah, the bane of online existence.

This time, though, when I clicked on the "spam" button, I saw this message:

myspace block spam friend requests 1

Well, thanks, Tom, for reminding me to check out the latest anti-spam options!

If you don't have this window accessible, you can easily just click on Settings, then go to Spam:

myspace settings spam

Either way, all roads lead to the same place:

myspace block spam friend requests 2

As I have highlighted: pick all the CAPTCHA options and click "Save" on the bottom of the screen. You'll get this:

myspace spam settings updated

That should just about eliminate the spam friend requests.

(btw, if you aren't familiar with CAPTCHA systems, check out this article: What is a CAPTCHA?)

The problem of weird MySpace users? Welcome to the 21st Century. :-)

One other way to stop getting junk is to drop Tom, or whoever is your My Space person as a friend. He's the Myspace guy that the spammer is using as a contact to get to your account.
I know that you're going to miss Tom but it just has to be done.

my profile on myspace seems to have been deleted and I'm just wondering if this is true, to the reason why.

I have something to say, now that you mention it, but ...
Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you for all your efforts on this Web site by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
