How do I restore stock tickers in my Stock Dashboard widget?Regarding the "Stocks" dashboard widget that comes with Tiger and Leopard. I deleted the Dow Jones and NASDAQ symbols from my Widget Menu (in an attempt to reinstall and fix the thing). Is there any way to successfully reinstall this widget (Stocks) and again display the Dow Jones and NASDAQ numbers. Would also like the S&P 500. Can't find a way to do this. Since Yahoo wrote the thing, I have tried them with no success either. Now I'm a bit confused. Are you talking about the *Apple Dashboard Widget* for tracking stock? If so, it's easy to re-add a stock ticker. For example, here's how I add the NYSE index... First step is to get to Dashboard, which you can do by pressing f12 on most Macs or the little tiny dashboard icon on the MacBook Air. Now you'll see the stock widget along with whatever else you have configured: click on the little "i" on the lower right corner of the widget. Now you'll be at the widget's stock ticker input area, where you should type in the name of the ticker. Here I'm using NYSE for the New York Stock Exchange Composite ticker: ![]() I click "+": ![]() Select it, and now notice the very bottom symbol, highlighted here: ![]() That should solve the problem you face. Now, if we could just see the stock exchange itself moving upwards...

Dave, I equally am having the same problem It seems impossible to bring back the original settings for the Stock Tracker that comes with Dashboard provided by Yahoo. Surely it can be set back to its default settings? What can be done? Posted by: Jim at October 17, 2008 10:13 AMHi. Out of the blue over the last week my stock ticker won't allow me to add new stocks - well - it DOES allow me access to add them but will not recognise the stock code. I'm not making mistakes with the codes, as even when I try to add one already on my list it continually says - 'Failed to validate stock'. I have since put in two other third party widgets and they won't allow any additions either. My widget is happily updating my stocks correctly but I just can't change it. Any ideas? Posted by: Scott Andrews at October 6, 2010 8:43 PMYES! I'm having the same problem. I cannot add a stock now. I just get "Failed to validate symbol". This true both on my laptop and Mac desktop. Is this new? Can anything be done? Posted by: Aaron at October 15, 2010 1:08 AMI too am having the same problem. I would like to add some more stocks, but it says "failed to validate symbol". Does anybody have a solution? Is there another widget that I can download besides the standard one? Posted by: Brian at October 23, 2010 7:19 AMFailed to validate symbol... Posted by: John M at October 24, 2010 4:16 PMI'm having the same problem - anytime I want to add a new stock symbol I get "Failed to Validate Symbol". What up?! Posted by: John D at November 4, 2010 12:16 PMStill not fixed. Yahoo is such a crappy company. The widget looks great when it works; hopefully Apple owns the graphics and will just license them to someone competent.
