How do I remove a Facebook friend or connection?

Not to sound like I'm becoming antisocial, but a woman who's on my friends list on Facebook turns out to be quite the kind of person I don't like to associate with. Can't say more than that, but I need to "defriend" her (unfriend her?) How do I do that??

Dave's Answer:

Uh oh, sounds like trouble in Facebook paradise to me! :-)

Fortunately, it's remarkably easy to defriend someone on Facebook, just a few mouse clicks. First off, select "Friends" from the top navigational bar:

Facebook navigation menu bar: Friends

Notice here that within the "Friends" area, I've also selected "Friend List". You'll want to do that too.

Now scroll around until you find the profile of the person in question. It'll look approximately like this, though obviously we're not talking about the same person! :-)

Facebook Friend Profile

Note the link on the lower right, "Remove Friend". That's what you want to select. Click on that and you'll get a confirmation dialog box:

Facebook Remove Friend

If you're really sure she should get the proverbial boot, click on "Remove Friend", otherwise click on "Cancel" and they'll never know that they were on the very edge of the abyss. :-)

So then here's my question. Is there any way to "unfriend" someone without them being notified?

My kids tried to sign up on facebook and somehow every time I try to link up with facebook, the sight comes up in Italian. How do I get past this and get an English speaking facebook to come up when I go to facebook.com?

- How do I delete many friends at one time?
- How do I delete a group of friends already in a list? I don't want to delete just the list but all the friends in there

I think the friends management in facebook is very poor

Is there a way to remove my profile on a person list of friends? It has recently came to me attention that this person is married. (news to me and it must be news to his wife) I do not want to be on his list. Is this possible?
Thanks

Can you unfriend a person without them being notified? I don't dislike these people, but I don't want my site cluttered with all their communications with others; I want to just keep a tight circle of friends and family. Many of the people who wanted to be "friends" with me have no interest in me anyway. It's just so distracting every time I go on Facebook.

Posted by: Lormi at March 12, 2009 3:56 PM

General consensus on Twitter is that if you unfriend someone on Facebook that they do *not* get any sort of notification. They'll only notice you've done so if they try to look at your private profile, etc.

I cannot get my facebook in English and I cannot find out how to change it because it is in a foreign language. What do I do.

Thanks, this helps. I had a Xanga friend that I added on Facebook, and he posted about oral sex. He claims to be a Christian. It figures. I am not a Christian, because I think they are as filthy as he is.

Hi, I have a silly question. I defriended someone on Facebook. Now I want to refriend them. Yes, childish, I know. It does not let him see me nor me see him even though I never blocked him. Please help.

Nothing silly about it, Love: sounds like they blocked you. So you might be out of luck.

How do I get my name out of Facebook?

Posted by: Bernice Rosenthal at August 31, 2009 5:51 PM

Is there a difference between remove connection and removing friend? I clicked the X beside the persons name? does that mean they still have access to my facebook?

Posted by: Tina at September 8, 2009 4:56 AM

I was friending a few people for my mafia wars application, but now when i try to delete them as a friend i dont have the option. Where the "X" is to delete them it only asks if i want to delete my connection with them. I do that and they still show up in my search box when i start spelling a name similar to theres. Its very annoying, help please?

Posted by: eli at October 19, 2009 8:50 PM

I deleted some files and all it seems to have affected are my facebook and mafia wars. I am using a Linux system. Is there anyway to delete facebook from my computer. I am hoping that by doing so I can reload it and it will replace the missing files. PLEASE help!!!!!!
