How do I reboot my Amazon Kindle?

I don't know where to turn: My Amazon Kindle is being a bit weird and I want to restart it, but don't have any clue how to do so short of just running the battery completely out and recharging it. How do I restart or reboot my Kindle??

Dave's Answer:

Don't panic! Just like in the terrific Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, I feel like that big red button should be on the home page of this site too.

The easiest way to restart your Kindle, whether it be a first gen or a fancy Kindle DX, is to simply slide and hold the power switch for about 15 seconds, then let go. The device will automatically to a hard restart. Easy, eh?

Now, I bet you want a more complicated way to restart your Kindle too, just so you can learn a bit more about how your eBook reader works.

I can do complicated too. Trust me on that one!

From your home screen, click on the "Menu" button. It'll bring this up:

amazon kindle reboot 1

Choose "Settings" and you'll see the fairly minimalistic configuration area:

amazon kindle reboot 2

No restart option? No problem! Tap on the "Menu" button again and this time you'll see a different set of choices:

amazon kindle reboot 3

You guessed it, click on "Restart" to restart or reboot your Amazon Kindle.

Now, if you're curious about this, I bet you have a lot more Kindle Help questions. Fortunately, I've got answers!

My Kindle DX is out of warranty. Screen is rather frozen except for bottom three inches which sometimes works to show books available and will let me select a book sometimes. Can't get to settings, etc. Top of screen has some lines and what looks like part of a picture frame. I am willing to send it for repair if I know of a good place and decent price. Any help?
