How do I quit a Yahoo Group?

Every so often I go into Yahoo Groups and sign up for a group. Most of 'em are benign at worst and interesting at best. But sometimes I quickly realize I want to leave a group. I just don't see how to do that! How do I unsubscribe from a Yahoo Group?

Dave's Answer:

I get so much mail that I don't always remember how it makes it into my mailbox, but like you, I am subscribed to a bunch of mailing lists through Yahoo Groups too. Recently a list I was on, the Colorado Society of Professional Journalists, became a rallying point for vitriolic political debate and I decided I wanted to leave too.

But you're right! It's not that easy. Sure, there's an "unsubscribe" at the bottom of individual group messages, but from my own testing, it appears that those are at least occasionally broken.

So I dug around and found the hidden "Leave Group" button. Let me show you where you can find it...

Log in to your Yahoo Groups and click on "My Groups":

yahoo groups my groups 1

Now you'll see a long list of what groups you're in (or a short list, depending on how many groups you're in). Find the group you seek:

yahoo groups view groups 2

In this case, I wanted "coloradospj", so I clicked on the group name.

yahoo groups view group coloradospj 3

No "leave group" or "unsubscribe" link to be found. What you need to do is click on "Edit Membership", as you can see on the top left. Now, finally, you see this:

yahoo groups edit membership 4

Still, where's that $#@$#$@ "unsubscribe" button?

On the lower left of this page. Scroll down...

yahoo groups leave group 5

There ya go. Click on "Leave Group", and, finally, you're out.
