Hey, thanks for this. We've got one of these remotes, too. It came with a paper listing a lot of codes, but none of them worked on our RCA tv. Thanks to the links in this article, I was able to find a working code. One less remote for us!

I cannot get the PIP to work on the comcast remote. I have all the cables and splitter but it just doesnt seem to work! only on video imput however I must use my tv remote and only get up to 99 channels. Can anyone help!!!!

I read two different guides on comcast.com in pdf and neither mentioned the need to prefix a '1' onto the code, but sure enough my remote expect 5 digits not 4 also. Also the two different pdf guides had different codes for phillips/magnavox TVs.

Dave, you'd never believe this but you saved my ass or behind, for the faint of heart. (if I can use that word.) I used your instructions and it took a little while but all of a sudden mandatory Comcast Digital worked. Saved me from having to wait 3 or 4 days for a Tech person to get around to working on my TV, from Comcast. Life Saver. ;)

When I'm watching a program that I recorded, the page up button used to advance the program 1 min and the page down used to rewind 30 seconds. Now if fast forwards 5 min for both, Can I change it back?

I have been trying to program for a minute. The code for my phillips tv was 0054... nothing. I used 1 in front and Voila, success. These remotes need a 5 digit code so for all codes that are 4 digit just put a 1 in front and it will work ..... When I turn on comcast cable with the remote, the tv screen says "front" in the upper left corner. I must have pushed a wrong button. I cannot access any channels. It is just a white screen with those words. I am housesitting, and they are not happy that they can't get cable to work. Can you help?! Thank you.

On my girlfriends panasonic tv vcr combo, I actually had to use a 5 digit code with 2 as my prefix, if that helps anybody. Thought that was worth a mention. Ha.

We have two TVs, each with its own remote, and long ago, with the help of a savy comcast tech, we programed both remotes to change the Favorite button to a "jump" button; that is the opposite of the replay button. When it was depressed, watching a recorded show, it would jump us a few seconds ahead through the commercials.

One remote died and we were given a new one, exactly the same kind. Now no one is able to explain how to reprogram the Favorite button to a forward jump?

i was trying to program the remote for my reciever. I had to use a "3" prefix.

I'm not positive but it appears you need to prepend a "1" when programming a TV and a "2" when programming an AUX device. This worked for my Magnavox TV and RCA dvd player.

He was absolutely right!!! i have been fighting this thing for 1 hour and 33 minutes, adding the 2 for an Aux device (dvd player - magnavox) worked!!!!

The Comcast remote gives three codes for Sony TVs: 10000, 11100, & 11317. While these work on the Trinitron for channel and sound, none of the enable me to setup the TV. We need the code so we can access the menu.

Great....now Comcast has a revised instruction sheet, with 5-digit codes! I have tried all of them for my Sylvania LCD and none of them work. Please help, I have other things to do with my life.

If plugging in the codes is getting to be a pain, use the code search. Example: You've tried all the codes for your TV, but you still cannot get the remote control to operate your TV.

Turn on your TV.
On the remote control, press TV once.
Then press and hold SETUP until the TV key blinks twice, then release the SETUP key.
Using the number pad, enter 9-9-1. The TV key will blink twice.
Aim the remote control at the TV and slowly alternate between pressing Power and TV. Stop when the TV turns off after pressing the POWER key. This means that a working code has been found.
Press the SETUP key once to lock in the code. The TV key will blink twice.
Note: Use the AUX key to program the remote for an audio receiver or DVD player

This worked awsome with all of my devices!! Hope this helps!!

I got the remote to work with the TV, it can turn it on/off and adjust the volume, BUT, I can't use the MENU button to access the TV Menu.

The Comcast Remote I had used to work with the TV Menu, but the remote died and we got a new one which I can't get to call up the Menu.

I have a Sony KDL-42V4100, Comcast DVR Box that uses a 4 number code. The 0000 works with one exception, the volume only work going down I can't turn it up. The other code wont work 0111 at all, any Ideas?

Wow! I hate to admit how much time I spent trying to program this remote for my new Samsung T.V. My fingers are numb from pressing "t.v." & "Power" over and over again. Unbelievable that their instructions do not inclue pressing '1' prior to the code. Sure enough, when I pressed 1, the first code listed under Samsung worked! Thanks a bunch!

I, too, was baffled when my Comcast remote seemed to expect 5-digit codes instead of the 4-digit codes printed in the manual. That "1" making it a 5 digit number seems to make a difference for the newer remotes - not the TV/device. It is related to the remote only.

I work for Comcast (I'm the poor shmuck on the other end of the phone when you call 1-800-COMCAST); so here's a quick note:

The silver remote with the GREY OK/Select button uses the 4-digit code.

The silver remote with the RED OK/Select button uses 5-digit codes.

look at the first page of the pdf regarding your remote
there's ways to change the volume and channel lock n all those sorts of things

i also saw someone trying to use the PIP button
that is for the dvr boxes...dont think they work on your tv's

Help! I just successfully programmed my new 3 in 1 remote to include my TV and my DVD player--but now I can't get it to select just one screen. Every time I need to enter a channel number to watch , I have to enter three digits !! i.e., If I want to watch channel 2 , I'd have to enter 002, for channel 11 , I'd have to enter 011 and for channel 383 , I'd have to enter 383!! I have another same exact remote for another comcast box but I just enter the channel number I need and it does the job i.e., I enter 2 for channel 2, 11 for channel 11 and 383 for 383. I want to program the first remote so that it behaves like the second remote i.e., how do I program the first remote ( descibed above) to work in such a way that I just enter the channel # without entering three digit?

Our Comcast cable comes in through our VCR/DVD combo and then to our VERY old MGA TV. This set-up worked perfectly until we had to add the little digi box to get all of our channels. Now the cable comes in through the digi box, then to the VCR/DVD combo, then to the TV. No problem with the TV, which has all of our channels now, but the VCR/DVD no longer functions with onscreen display, etc. I'm getting either "-----" on the VCR/DVD screen, or something like "7 U -" which, after a few seconds, reverts to "-------". How can I remedy this problem and use the vcr/dvd with the new set-up?

I have a Magnavox model MAG 24Mc4306 dvd/vcr/tv combo, and have had trouble finding the right code for Comcast 3 in 1 remote. The code that finally worked was the Magnavox DVD code 20821. I programmed that code for the TV, and everything works now.

im trying to program my comcast remote to my toshiba tv but i can only turn the volume up and down and turn it on and off...Why cant i switch channels??

sony trinitron turns on and off but no other controls work. this has been noted several times with no response (even from the comcast guys on the list :) ). does the red on/off controller work with the older sony's. also have an olevia lcd that does not respond at all to any of the three listed codes.

To get the remote to control the TV channels (and not just the cable channels), you need to turn off the Channel Control Lock. Instructions should be in the PDF for your remote. For my personal remote:
De-Activating Channel Control
Lock
1. On the remote control, press
Cable once. Then press and hold
Setup until the Cable key blinks
twice, then release Setup.
2. Enter 9 - 7 - 3. Press CH- once.
The Cable key will blink four
times.
3. Now, the remote control will
provide TV or cable channel
control capabilities while in the
TV or Cable mode.

Sharon, you can definitely create a custom lineup with the "favorites" option, but you can't axe channels you don't get from the main cable line up (which is stupid, in my opinion). I NEVER use the full lineup listing, I just made a faves list of the 40-50 channels I actually watch and that's all I use. Make sense? Would it be useful for me to post an article about how to create a favorites list?

This was so helpful. The prefix 1 before the four digit code fixed worked well with my oldler comcast remote and my new LG TV. I guess the newer Comcast remotes use 4 digits and the older one use 5.

As I was messing with it I noticed that entering a five-digit code made the TV lamp blink twice. I tried prepending a 0, with no luck, then a 1. The 1 worked. All the codes for magnavox seem to create response by my Magnavox MVR700VR VHS/DVD recorder but I can never get it to okay (OK) to provide necessary responses for the set up menu screens.

Is there an actual code for my recorder?

Also are there any codes that might work with the new Digital TV converters for off-air Antenna converter boxes.?

Thanks for the note about using the "1" before the four digit code. That did the trick.

I have a Sony Home Theatre in a box system DAV-HDX266. When I had the comcast dvr 3 remote using four digit codes, code 1903 worked and controlled my device. I recently turned in my dvr box and old remote for a new box and remote. The new remote uses 5 digit codes and there are no codes for Home Theatre in a box systems and none of the codes I tried work. I have added a 0,1,2,3 in front of 1903 and nothing works.

Any ideas? I am considering returning the new remote and requesting an older model with the gray "ok" button but prefer not to go to the trouble if there is a solution.

Any suggestions?

Put a 1 in front of 0171 per your instruction and the Comcast DVR remote worked for my Sylvania (Funai Mfg.) TV

In answer to Shan's question, yes you CAN set your Comcast box to use one or two digit channel numbers (for channel 2 enter "2", for channel 11, enter "11"), instead of "002", or "011". Don't bother searching for an answer on Comcast.com, you won't find one. They ship the set top boxes with this feature turned off by default. What the?

It would have been helpful for Comcast to have provided me with printed versions (or at least website links on a card) during the installation. But no, instead they gave me reams of useless paper about other services and left me to do all the legwork for what I really needed.

By the way, the AUX codes require a 2, then the code. ex: VCR Code Panasonic 0035 must be used as 20035.

And likewise, ALL TV codes require a 1 in front.

I still could not get this to work with my Mitsubishi TV. I worked for over an hour to trying all of the codes and various methods including spending about 15 minutes trying to search for a code. I finally did another web search and found a code not listed. The code that worked for my TV was a five digit code...10150.

Hello All. I work at Comcast and came accross this page. Comcast.com has all of the TV codes. the thing to pay attention too is the OK/Select button in the middle of the remote. If its Gray, it only takes four digits. If its red like most, they are five digit codes. go on the website and you will see the 2 different remotes. Thank You and have a great day

Oh, I forgot a few things. The TV button would blink twice after I put in the code, but when I pressed the power button the TV would not turn off as you stated.

My Sony WEGA needed a code of 11100 on the Comcast universal remote with the 'red' ok/select button.

The 5 digit code (by adding the "1" preceeding the given code worded for me. I wonder why Comcast did not mention this. For my Philips TV instead of "0054", I plugged in "10054" Voila she works.

In order to get my Kenwood VR-306 working on the AUX I had to prefix the 1313 code with a "3". So it was 31313

Hi, I recently replaced my old Comcast hd box with a new Comcast hd box (the small one)and new remote. The old box and remote worked fine but I wanted a box with an hdmi connection. Anyway, after making all the connections and programming the remote to my Sony SXRD Projection TV, the Comcast remote will turn the TV off but it will not turn it on. I tried all three codes in the Comcast list for Sony TV's (11100, 10000, and 11317). The 11137 appears to be the code, but it won't turn the TV on...it just turn it off. Any suggestions? Thanks

We recently purchased a Samsung plasma tv. We can not get our comcast cable remote to work properly. After using the up and down channel changer, it will stop working from seconds up to minutes. It will not turn off/on or volume control. We have tried all the numbers listed and also used the search and never got a double blink to indicate it had found the proper code. Thank you for any help you can give. Samsung support and Comcast have been useless.

Thank you very much. That first tip of adding the prefix 1 did the trick for my Samsung TV.

To get the remote to control the TV channels (and not just the cable channels), you need to turn off the Channel Control Lock.

De-Activating Channel Control Lock:

1. On the remote control, press Cable once. Then press and hold Setup until the Cable key blinks
twice, then release Setup.

2. Enter 9 - 7 - 3. Press CH- once. The Cable key will blink four times.

3. Now, the remote control will provide TV or cable channel control capabilities while in the
TV or Cable mode.

I have an older Magnavox tv and had a really hard time programming the remote to the tv. Apparently, the 4 digit codes are the ones to use on the older models because I took the "1" off the first code and punched it in and it worked!

10179, 10038, 10177, 10280 these are the codes for brand Dynex, which is similar or the same as Emerson for Comcast universal remote control

2.Turn your TV on
3.On the remote, press and release the TV key on the very top of the remote.
4.Press and hold the Setup key, until the "TV" key flashes twice, then release the "Setup" key.
5.Using the number pad, enter in the first 4-digit code found next to your television brand on the chart. If you do this correctly the "TV" key will flash twice. Now it's programmed!
6.Now point the remote at your TV and press the Power key. If the TV turns off, you're golden. If not, try again with the next code on the list.

Note: This solution was provided thanks to Dave, because he gave me the final tip on adding prefix (1) on the codes for Emerson (Same as Dynex). So the codes that I provided are listed on 4 digits for comcast remote manual pdf. I just added te prefix (1). Thanks Dave

You know what is funny. I just got my cable box yesterday. I was following the instructions with the 5 digit codes, and it would not work. It will long blink at the 4th digit. So after reading your post, I tried omitting the initial 1 and guess what. It worked! It only needed the last 4 digits.

Need some help. My new Dynex TV works great but went to play a DVD and have sound but no picture. It says "no signal" on a black screen. When I called Best Buy they said I either had to do something with the remote or change a cord in the back (but would not provide direction or detail however they said someone from the Geek Squad could come fix it for a minimum charge of $99). Since I think it's a quick fix I'd rather not spend that for 5 secs of work. Can you help please.

Your code is different depending if your comcast remote has a RED ok button or a GRAY one...GEEZ!! I spent hours using the old code list. Yes, as mentioned above, 5 DIGIT codes. Comcast should have this posted!

My remote does just as you said it would after I hit the CH - button and blinks 4 times, but after that it still will not allow me to change the channel. The Power and volume features work fine. I have a magnavox non hdtv and just was issued a RNG110 comcast box. Off the direction sheet, I hand turn on my tv and then point my remote at the box, I click TV, get one blink on that key, then hold in setup, waiting for two blinks. Instead, I get 1 blink, a pause, then two blinks. I have tried putting in codes (5 digits) to no avail (tv doesn't cut off). So if I don't get the right blinks to start, what's the use? For those asking about the Blu-Link and Comcast, it will not work. The hardware inside the Blu-Link is not capable of producing (or learning) the signals used by modern Comcast set-top boxes. There are only two solutions: Get a new remote or hope the manufacturer will produce a new remote and offer a trade-in. Neither solution is very nice since there are no other remotes at a comparable price and the manufacturer is still refusing to admit that there is a problem.

I had trouble getting my Proscan LCD TV to work on the code listed in the link.. I was able to find a code that did work doing a quick web search. 10178.. there are a few others that were also listed as proscan codes 10029, 10030, and 10019. I hope this helps!

OMG, thank you sooooo much. The adding the prefix of "1" was all I needed. After hours of trying all the codes and nothing working I googled this and found your information. You are totally awesome.

I called Comcast about programming the remote so I can control my TV menu and they walked me right through it!! I was only on the phone about 8-10 minutes for the total call.... Thank you customer service :) Press TV button then hold setup until 2 flashes then enter code of 973 and a Channel down 1x there should then be 4 flashes that was the trick. Good luck out there

Thank you Dave for the advise on using a 1. I tried everything in Comcast's guide, no luck. Then I read your comment about adding the 1 and the 4th code worked after 2 hours of trying it Comcast's way. A great big THANK YOU.

My 55" Vizio was bought for Xmas in 2009. Two or three times a year I try to program my comcast remote and give up in frustration. CC help is useless for the vizio. I just learned the cc remote with the gray "Ok/Select" button uses 4 code digits, and the red "ok/select button uses 5. I have the gray on, and on the fifth digit the TV changes channels. CC codes are all five digits, so I have been told to omit one digit. So, any one know whether to drop the first or last digit? Yes, I could just try them, but I now have about 40 codes from cc and vizio. What a mess

i was able to connect the control from comcast to my sony bravia and it still will only turn up the volume from the comcast box instead of the tv

Please help i programmed cable remote to work for volume of my tv and now volume is so low i cannot hear most of the channels on full volume when it wasnt programmed i could turn voulume up on both the cable remote and cable remotes and adjust between channels to our prefernece.
