How do I install a Theme in Google Chrome?I'm digging Google Chrome, but I really want to have a different skin or theme. Is that possible, and if so, what's the easiest way to do so? Okay, so I suspect that this is a plant, this question. Google Chrome has a lot of claims to fame, notably including terrific performance, but one of the best reasons to run it is that, just like Firefox, Chrome supports themes or skins. It's fun and there's a lot of creativity in the art community with contributed themes too. Themes are divided into two categories: those produced by the team at Google and those from third parties. Your best bet is to start by going to one of these two themes galleries, either Themes by Google or Themes by Artists. Let me step you through how to install the "Brushed" theme from Google... You've got another window open on the themes "by Google", right? Good, here's what you'll be seeing: ![]() I can see that "Classic" is the most popular, but "Brushed" looks like a better fit for the style of my own Mac OS X experience. To install it, I click on the thumbnail and more info's shown: ![]() Looks very much like a certain generation of Apple-produced Mac apps, doesn't it? No worries, let's just go with it. To proceed, click on "Add to Chrome" on the lower right. A warning pops up: ![]() Click "Install" to proceed (and rest easy that you can install it, decide you don't like it, and very easily back up to your current theme, or no theme at all). ![]() Tick, tick. (actually they install really fast in my experience) and... You can see there's an easy "Undo" button, but in the meantime, you can see the new theme in your own browser. Look cool? You should also test it by clicking on a blank tab and seeing what that looks like too. Here's "Brushed", for the record: ![]() Personally, I really like it, even if there are some of you (you know who you are) who will tell me that anything with that brushed metal look is trite and cliché. Yeah, whatever. Tastes vary, variety, spice, life, yadda yadda. :-) Oh! One more tip. If at any point you decide you don't actually like your theme, on the Preferences area you can always go to "Personal Stuff" and click on "Reset to Default Theme": ![]() Do spend a few minutes exploring the many themes while you're on the Google Chrome site. Lots of very slick designs. Also check out:
