How do I download email in Microsoft Entourage manually?

I'l like to be able to download messages in Entourage manually. Instead, every time I launch Entourage (Microsoft Entourage 2004 for Mac) all the messages are downloaded automatically. Things is, I want to do it manually.

Dave's Answer:

I'm now running Microsoft Entourage 2008, but the scheduling of automatic tasks hasn't changed significantly, so let's have a look...

The first step is obvious, but I'll say it anyway: launch Entourage.

Now you'll want to go to the Tools menu and look at Run Schedule. As you can see here, there's a sub-menu there:

Microsoft Entourage: Tools: Run Schedule sub menu

Choose Edit Schedules from the sub-menu:

Microsoft Entourage: Automated Schedules

The easy way to accomplish what you want is to simply disable everything by unchecking all the boxes here, but instead let's just pop into the main schedule (yours will have a different name to mine since you're not using "intuitive.com" as your mail server). Simply double-click on the main schedule item and you'll now see:

Microsoft Entourage: Tools: Account Schedule

I just wanted to point out that if you didn't want to do everything manually, you could set up your Entourage to only check hourly (or even less frequently). In fact, that's a secret of greater productivity too: check your email less frequently.

That should get you to where you want with Entourage. Good luck!
