How do I delete a Pinterest Pin from my Pinboard?

I posted a video to Pinterest for my company and the boss got upset, insisting that it was only made for our Facebook fan page and shouldn't show up anywhere else. I don't agree, but that's not the point. The point is, I need to delete the Pinterest pin from my Pinterest board. How do I do that, and do it quickly? Thanks!

Dave's Answer:

Well, I don't know much about what you're talking about but I have to say that rather than focus exclusively on Facebook, the companies I work with on social media marketing tend to be more oriented towards engaging with their customers on every social media platform, so I'd definitely be in favor of you posting a video to both Facebook and Pinterest. But hey, I'm not the boss, so what do I know about your business needs? :-)

Pinterest makes it easy to add content but removing it? Fortunately that's easy too, but like a lot of modern Web user interface design, it's predicated on moving your cursor around to find the otherwise hidden buttons, links and interface elements. My theory is that it's the result of too much Where's Waldo as a child, but that's another story.

I recently had a similar experience with Pinterest, actually, where I uploaded a video to YouTube and promptly linked to it on Pinterest, just to realize I hadn't replaced the unlicensed audio with royalty free content. Result: I had to upload the new version to YouTube too and then ended up with two different videos on the site. I wanted to link to the new one, though, not the old one with usage restrictions due to the wrong music being included.

So here's what I did...

First off, go to your Pinterest page and choose "Pins" from the user menu, not "Boards". It'll make it really easy for you to find the latest item you pinned, regardless of what board you used:

When I do that, the first entry on the list is my video:

Here's where the Where's Waldo stuff comes in: I move the cursor to the top of the thumbnail preview of the video and suddenly new buttons show up:

A click on "Edit" and I'm looking at the Pinterest information window for the specific video:

It's subtle, but just to the left of the image is a button "Delete Pin". If you're sure you want to delete your Pinterest pin from the board, click on it.

Really sure? Click on "Delete Pin" again and *poof* your Pinterest pin is gone forever. Now about your boss and her strategy for social media marketing... :-)

I have pins on my board I did not put there. They have no "edit" button so I cannot delete them. I don't want them on my board. How do I delete them?
Thank you.

Hi Yvonne. Interesting. Is it possible that the board is actually a shared Pinterest board, one where more than one person can post? I think that's what you'd see: other pins show up without you able to delete them...

Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you, Dave, for all your helpful information by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
