How do I delete a Google Groups group?

I've been trying Google Groups but as I've grown more and more frustrated with the inability to turn off threading in Gmail [ed note: see Can I Disable Threading in Gmail?] I've decided to just bail on Google entirely. Bing will work for search, and Yahoo Groups will do just fine for managing my mailing lists. How do I delete a Google group?

Dave's Answer:

Wow, sounds like you're definitely not a fan of the Google product line. I can respect that, though personally I'm on the other side of the coin to you, with Google supplying a remarkable number of my online management tools, from groups to email, news to an RSS reader, search and even an advertising coop program that helps me keep this site up and running.

That's okay. We'll just agree to disagree.

Actually, i can understand people who don't like the Gmail threading feature and remain surprised that it's not a configurable option. I mean, when Gmail came out, you couldn't delete email either, but they added that feature based on popular demand, even though the Gmail mantra was "keep it all, search for what you need"...

Now, to delete a group, just log in to your account on Google Groups, then look for the "manage" link next to the group name:

google group

You'll now see various information, but what you want to do is look to your right. On the right side of the "manage" window you'll see a menu of options:

google group management tasks

It's a tiny bit confusing, but you want to click on "Group settings". Do that and you'll see:

google group group settings general

Almost there. Click on the "Advanced" tab...

There you go, half-way down. Click on the "Delete Group" button and you're just about done:

google group group settings advanced reason

You can give a reason or not. It doesn't affect whether the group disappears or not. Enter whatever ya want, then click "Remove this Group".

Done.

That's all there is to it.
