How do I delete a Google Groups group?

I've been trying Google Groups but as I've grown more and more frustrated with the inability to turn off threading in Gmail [ed note: see Can I Disable Threading in Gmail?] I've decided to just bail on Google entirely. Bing will work for search, and Yahoo Groups will do just fine for managing my mailing lists. How do I delete a Google group?

Dave's Answer:

Wow, sounds like you're definitely not a fan of the Google product line. I can respect that, though personally I'm on the other side of the coin to you, with Google supplying a remarkable number of my online management tools, from groups to email, news to an RSS reader, search and even an advertising coop program that helps me keep this site up and running.

That's okay. We'll just agree to disagree.

Actually, i can understand people who don't like the Gmail threading feature and remain surprised that it's not a configurable option. I mean, when Gmail came out, you couldn't delete email either, but they added that feature based on popular demand, even though the Gmail mantra was "keep it all, search for what you need"...

Now, to delete a group, just log in to your account on Google Groups, then look for the "manage" link next to the group name:

google group

You'll now see various information, but what you want to do is look to your right. On the right side of the "manage" window you'll see a menu of options:

google group management tasks

It's a tiny bit confusing, but you want to click on "Group settings". Do that and you'll see:

google group group settings general

Almost there. Click on the "Advanced" tab...

google group group settings advanced

There you go, half-way down. Click on the "Delete Group" button and you're just about done:

google group group settings advanced reason

You can give a reason or not. It doesn't affect whether the group disappears or not. Enter whatever ya want, then click "Remove this Group".

Done.

That's all there is to it.

The information here is no longer relevant. There is NO Delete Your Group Option any longer. It stops at the Fixed-width Font option.

I finally found out how to delete a group in gmail after 3 hours of searching and it was there right in front of me, . you must create a group first,(see below) then click on contacts, under the contact list is the actual group list,( it doesnt say so but this is it) click on one you made as a test, the group will appear in a window towards the right, then click on the "more arrow" and you can then delete, or rename your group. Creating a group is easy, click on gmail (top left), then click on contacts, then you should see the words "new group" on the left side under My Contacts (the rest should be easy), I did quite a bit of searching durning all of this and found that many many people could not delete a group, pass this along hopefully, Dave in Rapid City SD

This is not the exact steps on the updated google groups, but I managed to figure it out by stumbling through the new version. Your input is still valid, but not 100% exact. I wasted alot of time trying to figure this out on my own, you saved me!!!
Why can't Google get with it and make something like this, obvious? -10 for Google! I end up swaying more and more to Yahoo everytime I try to use googles email etc.

Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you, Dave, for all your helpful information by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!

I will never send you any unsolicited email. Ever.
