How do I delete a Facebook list?

Okay, I read your article about how to create Facebook lists and had lots of fun experimenting, but now I have too many lists and want to clean things up. So, um, how do I delete a Facebook list?

Dave's Answer:

Ah, cause and effect, along with unintentional consequences.

You did what I did, actually. Trying to figure out how to work with Facebook lists, you seem to have set up a bunch that you didn't actually need so you could best figure which would prove useful in the long run.

In fact, I wrote this blog entry about how to delete Facebook lists before I wrote the one about how to create them, in the interest of not making my Facebook experience too complicated.

Fortunately, it's pretty fast and easy to axe a Facebook list.

Start by noticing that your list shows up on the left of your home page:

facebook friends list clients

Here the list I'm going to delete is called "Clients". See it?

Now, move to the top and choose All Friends from the Friends menu:

facebook friends all friends menu

On the left side of the new Facebook friends page you'll see a section called "Lists":

facebook friends all friends lists

Click on the name of the list you want to delete (in this case I'll click on "Clients"), and you'll now see the list members shown:

facebook friends all friends lists delete list

If you want to edit or update list members, now you can see how to do it. We want to delete the Facebook list entirely, however, so simply click on "Delete List" along the top bar.

Facebook will confirm that's what you really want to do:

facebook friends all friends lists delete list verify

If you really do want to remove the Facebook list specified, click on "Delete List" and *poof* it's gone, never to darken your Facebook doorstep again. :-)

And while we're talking about Facebook, don't forget to join our Facebook fan page too. Thanks!

I have something to say, now that you mention it, but ...
Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you for all your efforts on this Web site by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
