How can I change the look of my Twitter page?

I checked out your Twitter page, Dave (see: Dave on Twitter), and it looks really nice. How'd you do that?

Dave's Answer:

Ah, Twitter. Yes, there's no better way to communicate with your "possé" and there's also no better way to learn the trivial details of the live of hundreds of people who aren't your friends, but to whom you're loosely (albeit digitally) connected.

Truth be told, however, it's really quite addictive and I now follow almost 100 people on Twitter, mostly my good friends, but also some news feeds (CNN breaking news, for example) and relatively random folk who just have interesting things to say.

Anyway, it's pretty easy to change your background and colors on your Twitter page, if you know how to wind through their site.

Step #1 is to notice that on the navigational bar on the top right of your Twitter page is a link called "Settings":

Twitter Navbar

Click on "Settings" and you'll see the main window changes to your primary profile settings and offers some additional options:

Click on "Design" and you'll see the design center:

Twitter Settings: Design

Instead of you having "Use the Twitter default style" selected, instead choose "Use my custom style below". Now you can specify a background image that's a photograph, sketch, or, as I have, a pattern.

Tip: If you want to get your own background pattern, I strongly suggest that you simply Google "download free background graphic tile seamless" and see what you can find. That's where mine came from.

You can also change the basic colors on the page too: I changed the background color of the sidebar to match the purple pattern, from light green to light blue.

Finally, when you're happy with the changes you've made, click on "Save" then go back to your default Twitter home page to see the results.

Cool, eh?

I've been having a heck of a time finding an image to put on my Twitter background, so I googled "Background for Twitter page" and found your post. Thanks for the suggestion to google for seamless tile backgrounds, I'll try that.

Hi Dave,

I saw your profile on twitter and it seems like you know it very well. I am not good at customizing my profile....and if you would like to help me I would be really grateful.
I would like to change the design...so I went to "settings" , then "design"and at this point I don't know which codes I need to insert in order to modify the colours, the background image, the text colour and so on...is there a list of codes where I can choose from? I know is a stupid question, but I really don't know how to do it.
Thank you very much for your help,

Mr. Taylor, as always, such great information, and sooo easy to understand. My Twitter page looks much better now after reading your guide to "Twitter Tweaks".

Thank you kindly :)

I have something to say, now that you mention it, but ...
Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you for all your efforts on this Web site by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
