How do I reboot my RCA Lyra MP3 player?

I bought a new RCA Lyra RD2312 MP3 player and have liked it overall (though don't tell my boyfriend I still have a bit of iPod Nano envy) I have found that on occasion it freezes up on me and when that happens, I don't really know what to do. I think I should be able to reboot the Lyra, but I don't know how to do that. Can you help out?

Dave's Answer:
RCA Lyra RD2312 MP3 Player, from Amazon.com
I totally understand both your enthusiasm for the Lyra RD2312 - it's darn cool looking - and your iPod envy too. I have four iPods, actually, so I really probably need to join some twelve-step program or something. :-)

But unlike the iPod, the Lyra RD2312 includes voice recording, line-in recording and an FM tuner and record capabilities, oh, and it's a darn sight cheaper than an iPod too!

However, like all gadgets, I also understand your frustration with the RCA Lyra player too. Indeed, I get a fair number of questions about Lyra functionality, so you're not alone in finding the device a bit on the confusing side.

Generally, I find the RCA Web site pretty confusing, but with a bit of digging about, you can find the RD2312 Instruction Book [PDF], wherein it explains how to reboot the unit, though rather indirectly.

The irony is that it's actually pretty darn simple. Ready for it?

Pull out the batteries.

Yep, that's all you have to do to reboot the unit. Pop out the batteries, count to 60, then put them in again, make sure you don't have the unit on "HOLD", and push the "ON" button to reboot your Lyra player.

Of course, this is one of the nice characteristics of the Lyra player, because on an Apple iPod, you can't get to the battery so you can't actually pop anything out. I also see many questions about frozen iPods and rebooting is rather more tricky than just simply popping out a battery.

Anyway, I hope that helps you with your RCA Lyra RD2312 MP3 player!

I just purchased a rca lyra mp3, RD1028 MP3 player w/expansion slot and bonus.

I attached the earphones to it after we dowloaded some songs to it from my computer, except how do you turn it on when you put the earphones on, we push all the buttons on the sides and it does nothing?
thanks

I have an RCA LYRA RD2762. I was trying to detect it with my computer using windows media player. It didn't do anything for awhile and kept cycling between transfer messages and safe to disconnect messages. I made the mistake of not disconnecting the device through the windows usb window. After disconnecting it says the system file is corrupted. I have not been able to reboot it. My question is there anything I can do to repair it or must i buy a new mp3 player.

Nice tip.

B sure to get the most recent OS update/upgrade for the Lyra rd2312 from RCA/Thompson. It solves alot of problems including capacity to handle files better and larger SD cards. I've used 2 GB so far, it might do more.

i actually think it's a pretty good device, and it works relatively well to, a little complicated though, but anyhow, i recently got a sony walkman, "it's one of thoes slim two gig mp4s, and i freak'n love it.
i do use the rca lyra a lot still and i think it was very well made, and for the amout of stuff that it has it is very compact, corresponding to what i just said, it freezes on me some times but it's so easy to reboot!:)
