Gotta say, I love "insanely prolific". Sound be a bumper sticker or t-shirt: "I'm insanely prolific on Facebook". :-)

You do, however, highlight a problem that is inherent in social media: some people post more often than others. In fact, let's be honest, some people post way too much, typically about things that we just don't care much about, and when they take over our feed, whether it's on Pinterest, Twitter or Facebook, it's downright annoying. Unfriending them seems a bit drastic, though, so tweaking what you see is a good idea.

Unfortunately, as is typical for Facebook, once you figure out how to do that, things change again, and it used to be that there was a convenient pop-up menu you could access when looking at a friend's update on your newsfeed. Now it's gone.

Or is it?

Turns out it's just buried a few more clicks in. Let me show you...

Here's the top of a status update on Facebook:

If you move the cursor to the top right of the "box" that defines the region the update's using (kinda hard to describe what I mean, just try it) you'll see that a small downward arrow button magically appears:

Click on it and a menu shows up with some options:

It's in this menu that there used to be options of "only show me important updates", etc. That's moved. To get to it on the latest version of Facebook, choose "Hide..." and this specific update will be hidden and replaced by some status information:

Almost there. Click on "Change what updates you get from Rlyn" (well, yours won't say "Rlyn", but you know what I mean!) and, finally, the menu pops up with the options you seek:

This is a great way to filter out all game updates, for example. Just click on the categories you don't want to see (I usually ignore Games, Music and Videos and Other Activity) and you're done.

Want to remain friends with them on Facebook but just don't want to ever see any updates? You can do that too: Choose "Unsubscribe". They'll never know...
