How do I get photos and music onto my Sony PSP?How do I change my regular music to mp3 so that I can download it into my psp? I also can't get pictures into the psp? I have the regular usb cable It's not too hard to transfer files from your Windows PC to your Sony PSP, but here's the trick: the "PSP Value Pack" doesn't have everything that you need. Not so good. In fact, you'll want to add a larger Memory Stick Duo, for example, because 32MB just isn't much space at all, when you come down to it. The other missing piece in the Value Pack is the USB cable that lets you connect your Sony PSP to your Windows PC and, of course, vice versa. Fortunately, these are pretty easy to find - anywhere that carries Sony digital cameras should have the right USB cable, or you can try somewhere like Froogle to find a cable. I did a quick search and found this $7.95 cable from one store. To get everything working, plug the Sony PSP into the Windows PC via USB cable, plug the PSP into the wall, then turn both units on. On the PSP, click the "USB Connection" button (on the Settings menu) and, hopefully, your PC will beep and tell you that it's found a new "removable disk": your PSP. Using Windows Explorer, find the new PSP device and if there isn't already a folder called PHOTO on it, create one as you ordinarily would create a folder in Windows. Now just drop in any JPEG images you'd like to have viewable on your PSP while on the go. Music-wise, you'll want to create a folder called MUSIC and drop in MP3 format music files (which means that you can't play music you get from the Apple iTunes Store, for example, because that's in a different format). I hope that'll get you going with this process. It doesn't seem too hard! Here are a couple of useful additional references:

To all that are having the problem with music showing up as "Corrupt Data", here is the reason: Although the PSP manual says that the MUSIC folder is not case sensitive, it actually is. The folder must be named in ALL CAPS. If it is not, the PSP does not recognize it and shows it as "Corrupt Data". If your PC is not allowing you to name the folder in all caps, open an Explorer window (or MY Computer).....go to View then Folder Options......Click the View tap, and at the top of the Advanced Settings window, under Files and Folders, make sure "Allow all uppercase names" is checked. This should solve the problem. Randy said, on January 5, 2006 4:47 PM:
For PSP owners that are using Windows 98, you can connect the PSP to your PC. Here is a link to a site where you can download a driver for a Vivitar V3615 digital camera.....believe it or not, it will work for the PSP because it is a mass storage device driver. I downloaded it and it worked for my PSP and my Creative Zen Nano MP3 Player. Randy said, on January 5, 2006 4:51 PM:

A good additional article to read if you're having problems with transferring music onto your PSP is this: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/i_cant_get_music_to_play_on_my_sony_psp.html Photos are quite similar, and JPEG is a particular format for a graphics file that's photo-friendly. It stands for "Joint Photographic Experts Group", though I'm sure you don't care about that. Just about any graphics program should be able to produce JPEG format files (denoted by .JPG or .JPEG) that'll work fine on the PSP. Matthew Benjamin said, on February 1, 2006 10:43 AM:

Protected files are protected, jt2, because they're under the control of a Digital Rights Management system like iTunes. As far as I know, there's no easy way to "pry them loose" so you can copy them onto other devices. Nate Overland said, on February 8, 2006 6:24 PM:

I figured it out PPL. You have to create the MUSIC folder in the PSP folder. After I did that the music showed up and played. The same should be done with Pictures, create the folder PHOTOS in the PSP folder. Hope this helps all. sam said, on February 14, 2006 5:00 PM:

Westlake, that's all well and good, but a lot of the material you'd find is likely to be illegal and unauthorized. You might well download that on your computer, but do you really think that these musicians will continue to produce new CDs if no-one buys 'em? Chris Camilli said, on February 16, 2006 1:01 AM:
You guys can not just copy or move files without consent of the software company or the Artist-Producer......even if you do change it the digital signature will be able to checked against a data base.....and I am still researching the data.....but keep it simple....if you wanna use it just ask.....Im sure you can get the rights you need......Trust me on this.....I was the king of file transfer and copyright infringement....and could explain how what I was doing was wrong.....YOU DONT KNOW MORE THAN THEN THE DEVELOPERS.....BUT THEY NEED TO SEE THE RETARD IN EVERY INTELLIGENT PERSON....L@@k...When the unthinkable begins in your head.....then the reality will soon follow....dont think of all the ways out of the box.....is it not eaiser to just not think about going in there....Right?.....does that make cents? Dave Taylor said, on February 16, 2006 1:08 PM:
I really don't believe that's true, Chris. If I can put a CD in my car player or home stereo then what's the problem with putting it onto my Playstation Portable device so I can enjoy it on an airplane? That's "fair use". Les said, on February 16, 2006 10:33 PM:

David, you'll need to export your music from iTunes and make sure it's in MP3 format. I cover that here: http://www.askdavetaylor.com/about_itunes_mp3.html Jose, you might be running a version of Windows that doesn't support the PSP, unfortunately. It's really designed for Windows XP, sorry to say. Louie, I'd counsel that you actually reformat your PSP's memory stick with the PSP itself (rather than your PC) then try copying the music into the new MUSIC folder. Beware, though, that you'll lose all your game saves by reformatting, unfortunately. See: DEAN THORPE said, on February 24, 2006 4:59 PM:
You must make the MUSIC folder on youre psp within the psp folder already there and transfer the mp3's thru to that inner Music folder. luke said, on February 25, 2006 7:12 AM:

Eddie, I don't think you can do that, just as you can't transfer iPod videos from the iTunes store to your PSP. The programs just don't export the video in a usable format. Sorry mick collis said, on February 27, 2006 5:45 AM:

Mick, I have. Repeatedly. :-) http://www.askdavetaylor.com/about_psp_photos.html Eddie, you are reading too much into my comment. I said that you can't copy the music videos from the Apple iTunes Music Store onto your PSP because of the digital rights management, but if you have your own CDs / DVDs with music videos on them, you can theoretically copy them onto your PSP, though it's not easy.
