How do I get a free AOL screenname?

I have no idea how to get a free screen name on AOL. I tried aim and now aol and it's still not working for me. Dave, what do i do, i just cant figure it out?

Dave's Answer:

The fastest and easiest way to set up a new, free screen name on America Online (AOL), now that they've changed their entire philosophy of business and are offering free accounts rather than the $21.95/month account that Cannot Be Canceled (just kidding! See quit AOL for many painful stories, however)

Anyway, according to AOL, the easiest way to get get a new screen name is to click on the "Get One Free" link on the AOL signup page. Indeed, go to the AOL Home Page and it's pretty hard to miss the signup graphic:

Free AOL Account Signup Graphic

At this point, simply select the free option and they'll ask for some pretty specific personal information:

Free AOL Account Signup Form to Fill Out

Fill that in completely (I've tried, it requires every single field to be specified) and you will then be asked to pick a screenname:

Free AOL Account Create Screen Name

Click "continue" and if you've lucked out and picked something unique, you'll be set up with your own free AOL account.

Note that you won't have access to any "live" AOL customer service (what's the alternative, dead customer service?) so you're on your own if things weird out.

Good luck!

I have something to say, now that you mention it, but ...
Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you for all your efforts on this Web site by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
