How do I forward a Gmail mail message?

Hey Dave! After I read my gmail messages, I want to forward to another person. How do I forward messages in Gmail?

Dave's Answer:

If I told you there was no way to forward messages would you believe me? No? Good. It's quite easily done in Gmail, but as with much of the Google suite, you have to poke around a bit to find the key control feature.

I'll have to assume that you're running the newer Google mail / Gmail interface, however, so I'll show that interface -- it's what I have -- and if you are for some reason still on the earlier Gmail interface, well, you should be able to put two and two together (hint: it makes four!) and figure things out.

So let's jump in!

Here's a message I recently received from the group Mom Central.

As with any Gmail message, there's a lot going on with the interface:

The key interface element here is on the right, it's a small black triangle pointing downward. Click on it and a menu appears with rather a ton of options:

As highlighted, the option you want is "Forward". Click on that and a mail composition window appears with the message already in the edit buffer:

Notice that the subject is "Fwd:" followed by the original subject and that there's a convenient space above the quoted message for you to enter your own comments.

Done? Click on "Send" or "Send & Archive" and... you're done!

See, not too difficult after all.
