How do I download songs onto an RCA Lyra MP3 player?

hi. i was wondering.. I use a RCA Lyra mp3 player that i got from a friend for free. (USB cord included) and i was wondering how to download .mp3 songs onto the mp3 player. When i was reading your tip on how to do this i found that i didn't have a removable hard disk and im using windows XP so i was wondering whats wrong with my computer or where i need to look for the Removable Hard Disk. (and yes.. i'm not an idiot. the mp3 player is hooked up to the computer.) so if you would please help me. that would be awesome, thanks for your help.

Dave's Answer:

It's useful to have a specific model number, but fortunately it appears that the RCA Lyra MP3 players all use the same general interface, and it's pretty easy to find the user's guide for the Lyra series on the RCA Web site.

Here's how I found it: I went to Google, clicked on "Advanced Search", and specified the name of your product and that I was only interested in results that were in PDF format. The #1 match?

RCA Lyra MP3 Players: RD1021, RD1071, RD1075

According to that document, you need to ensure that you press the PLay button once the unit's connected to your computer:

RCA Lyra MP3 Player: Downloading MP3 Files

Unfortunately, it appears that the referenced "Software Instruction Manual" isn't available online, so you might need to call RCA (or Radio Shack: they sell the Lyra players too) to get a copy of that. But I bet if you hook things up and push Play you'll get it working.

RCA Lyra MP3 Player: RD1028
RCA Lyra RD1028 MP3 Player

If not, go to the RCA Audio / Video site and search for your specific player by model number. If you have an RD1028, for example, you can download the necessary WinXP drivers straight off their Website.

Hope that gets you up and running!

Another common problem occurs if you are, for example, on a computer connected to a Novell network. The first network drive may be set to F:. With multiple internal hard disk drives, CD-ROM/DVD, etc., there may be no drive letters remaining between A and F for the removable disk to use. The solution in Novell is to right-click on the N in the system tray and select Novell Client Properties. Then under the "client" tab, change the first network drive to something else (say, J). Reboot, and then reconnect the USB drive. Other networks have similar settings.

We use the RCA Lyra RD1028A for my 6 yr old son's MP3 player. He loves it! We added a 128Mb card and he now has 256Mb of space for around 75 songs total. I've been told the 1028 will take up to a 512MB SD card, but I'm not sure of that.
In any event, aside from some folks finding qwerky problems with this model, it's ruggid, sounds great and is excellent for a young child or novice audiophile. ENJOY!

i tried to reset it... the songs stay in, i don't think it's work.

I searched in the manual from RCA.... i didn't find annything about reset by another way.

hey dave i have a question about a very cheap brand of mp3 player, hip street, i followedall the instructions and referreed to manual, tried toask microsoft and couldnt find a website for the company who makes them. this mp3plyr has no setup disc and builtin usb. wmp is suppoosed to automatically detect the device in order to sync. the computer detects the device but no matter how many different ways i try to hook it up wmp doesnt detect the mp3 player and keeps on saying i need to connect device, even tho when i plug it in 2 usb, wmp starts playing the sample music that come with it automatically, im running vista and the manual says its compatible but i cant put my music on due to these facts. i dont understand, i tried formatting the mp3 and everything, its the most frustrating and useless mp3 plyr ive ever had. i was hoping maybe u kno y this is, helpful suggestions and/or a different media plyr that might be compatible with this brand of mp3 device.
