How do I delete MySpace comments?

I have a friend who turns out to be a real jerk and I really want to get rid of his comment on my MySpace account. I seem to recall that when someone initially leaves a comment I can choose whether to accept it or not, but can I delete it now, months later, so I don't have to see this guy's face every time?

Dave's Answer:

Sorry to hear that your relationship with this guy soured, but, well, it happens. Alas.

MySpace is pretty easy about changing your profile to match the changes in your life, fortunately, so let me show you how to delete this chap's comment and you can promptly get rid of him.

Log in to your account, then click on Edit Profile. On the top right you'll see four choices:

MySpace Edit Comment

As you might imagine, you need to click on Edit Comments, which will show you a list of all the comments people have left for you in newest-to-oldest order:

MySpace Edit Comment

I only have four comments, and the newest of which is from a friend of mine who is writing a book about MySpace safety, actually, as you can see.

To delete a specific comment, just click on the Delete Comment link and it'll be done. Quickly and easily.

Hope that helps you clean up your comments.

How do I delete all of my comments at once..instead of one at a time?

I have a spam comment on myspace that I can't delete. HELP

Posted by: Renee at January 5, 2007 7:15 AM

I'm like Renee--our band now has this stupid spam ad comment that I can't delete--they seem to have overriden that code in their post that has the option for deleting a comment. How can I get rid of it? I've been looking everywhere and racking my own brain. I contacted myspace to let them know...anyone have any suggestion?

Posted by: Laura at January 6, 2007 10:39 AM

how do i delete comments quick if someone sends me a picture a hundred times just to make me mad? is there an easier way than by going through each one individually?

Posted by: robert at January 6, 2007 9:13 PM

to delete these comments do the following. go to your edit comments page and find the comment. take the comment under it and copy the "delete my comment" link for it. now see how it says in part of that link "ctl*" *being the comment number, just change that to the next lower value. so if the comment under your undeletable one is ctl05 you would change it to ctl04, then just copy that javascript link into your browser and hit go and it will delete that comment.

Posted by: rick at January 8, 2007 8:37 PM

You state:
"being the comment number, just change that to the next lower value. so if the comment under your undeletable one is ctl05 you would change it to ctl04, then just copy that javascript link into your browser and hit go and it will delete that comment."
I understand everything you said except the part the stats "copy that javascript link into your browser" how are you supposed to do that?

this actually works.... how do u do it? go to the "delete comment" on the next comment, and right click that link and choose "Copy shortcut" then go to the top of your browser and paste it into the address bar.

Hey Rick,
Thanks SO MUCH! The spammer comments can now be deleted! The spammers are also corrupting their originating page so you can't "block user" either, so I'll have to track them down & delete.
Thank you! You really helped me out here.
Yours,
Billy

to delete any comments without the hassle of html, go to edit profile, and click safe edit mode at the right of your screen, then this will send you to a page with three choices, choose comments, then delete the comments you wish

Posted by: jonathan at January 15, 2007 3:13 PM

Thanks very much ! I managed to get rid of two spammers comments which had played around with the code and disabling the "delete comments" button. The solution work very well and the comments were gone !! I now ensure that I approve comments first.

Posted by: Doug at January 16, 2007 8:09 AM

Someone posted a comment and it overlaps the "delete comment" part. Have any solution?

Posted by: Cynthia at January 19, 2007 6:46 AM

I heard there isn't any way to delete a comment that "I" left on a friend's page (ex-girlfriend actually). Is there any way possible to do this???

Posted by: Kory at February 8, 2007 5:07 AM

hey i don't get it..how do u like erase the spy spam comment..u copy the "delete my comment" and where da hell is da browser..how do u change it..do something..or please put it on youtube and show me

Posted by: naz at February 10, 2007 5:50 PM

All you need to do is go to edit profile, then click safe mode. Then select the comments tab. You can delete ANY comments from there even if there wasn't a 'delete comment' link on the main comment page.

Posted by: Jay at February 13, 2007 5:22 PM

The safe mode to delete submitted by jay worked excellently I can't see why Myspace just didn't give me the same info.....Thanks Jay and thanks Dave for posting it.

Posted by: Mikael at February 15, 2007 3:25 PM

the tip about copying a delete command line and replacing the number was pure genius! thanks a lot

Posted by: adzix at February 15, 2007 6:55 PM

Here's another trick to do it a bit faster (great for if you have hundreds of comments, like most of us):

Copy the 'Delete My Comment' link for the comment below the last comment you want to keep (comment #25, for exapmle). Make a new 'favorite' page in your browser. Go to its properties and paste the 'Delete My Comment' link (the javascript) into the "URL:" line.

Pull up a 'favorites' tab or column, and as long as you're in your 'View Comments' page, you can keep hitting the new favorite and it will delete each comment below the last one you want as each is bumped up into that favorited slot. Makes deleting comments a single click instead of a scroll and two clicks.

Posted by: Andrew at March 22, 2007 12:35 AM

Is there any way that i can delete *all* of my comments at once? Because i was sat at my pc last night deleting them one by one, and thought to myself, there has to be a faster way of doing this!

So if you can help me, it would be most apreciated!

Thanks.

I've got a comment posted on my myspace page that I can't delete using the above methods (ie copying the link to your address bar and changing the number or using safe mode) It seams the comment has nothing in it and there is html above it. I get a message saying "Sorry! an unexpected error has occurred.

This error has been forwarded to MySpace's technical group"
which ever way I try. Any Ideas? its at the top of my comments on http://www.myspace.com/retawboyce if anyone wants to have a look.

Cheers

I followed these directions:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
to delete these comments do the following. go to your edit comments page and find the comment. take the comment under it and copy the "delete my comment" link for it. now see how it says in part of that link "ctl*" *being the comment number, just change that to the next lower value. so if the comment under your undeletable one is ctl05 you would change it to ctl04, then just copy that javascript link into your browser and hit go and it will delete that comment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yet my javascript came out as ctl00
I'm not sure what I should do...

Nvm, I got it
[Durr me]

Posted by: Danielle at March 25, 2007 12:51 AM

Note that if you are having a problem deleting a comment, you should flip to "safe mode" and then you can delete anything, even those tricky comments with code to prevent you deleting them. Here's a tutorial on how to do that:

Posted by: Dave Taylor at March 25, 2007 4:03 PM

i got spam comments, and i went to delete them through the “safe edit mode and it still didnt work. everytime i try it says “Sorry! an unexpected error has occurred. This error has been forwarded to MySpace’s technical group. so i put my profile on the comment approval setting, and the same message comes up when i approve the comments. now i can not recieve any comments on my page. whats can i do about this?

Posted by: koo at March 26, 2007 5:46 PM

Is there any way to delete "ALL" comments on my myspace page without having to do it one by one???

Posted by: Netta at March 26, 2007 9:32 PM

Kudos to the gentleman who posted the safe mode suggestion...did the trick perfectly!!

Posted by: Kip! at April 1, 2007 11:14 AM

Hey Dave, thanks for your help.
we couldn't have done it without you.

So then we got this spam that jumped from comment to comment and when we deleted it (via your info) it worked. editprofile/safe mode that rocked.

so we then had to open up another window and go to that box at the bottom of the comment (you can see it on your page with the comment that's causing all the trouble) and you have to go in there
and delete all the info contained within that little box...keep that window of your myspace page open.

go back to the other window with your myspace page open
and then delete the comment..

meaning that since you erased all the stuff it's using to loop itself onto the 'next below comment'

it can't do it.

Please if you find an easier way to explain this
then feel free to edit this.

thanks soooooooo much

Thnx Jay! I went to safe mode (can't beleive i didnt think of that myself!) and it all workt out! ^_^ Much appreciated

notice how tons of people keep asking how to delete ALL of their comments at once? each time this question is posted, there is no response until someone asks how to delete the stupid spam comments, and then THAT question is answered AGAIN!! the reader wanting to know how to delete all comments at once is left scrolling through all comments until he/she reaches the end of the page, sans answer. what a waste of time.

buy you a latte'? why? what did you really answer?

Okay, okay, keep your bananas on the tree, Matt! The fact is that I do not know of any tool that lets you bulk delete comments, whether you want to remove a half-dozen or a thousand of them. It's one of the many many areas where MySpace usability falls down. There might be a third-party app you can install and use, but I have no experience with those and am leery about any tool that wants to know an account password anyway.

Hi there! I've got comment spam as well on my MySpace profile. I deleted the comments in Safe Edit Mode. While the comments no longer appear on the Safe Edit comment page, the comment spam is still displaying on my profile and even blocking out any of the comments prior to the posting of the first spam comment. I also tried the copying and pasting js link with modified comments numbers, and I received the same error page. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Posted by: Jeannette at May 2, 2007 6:59 PM

I'm having the same problem as Jeannette, I deleted the comments in safe mode and they disappeared but they are still displayed on my comment page. I tried using the other method also and the comments are still there.
