How can I unfriend people on Facebook? My stupid little brother got into my Facebook account and sent friend requests to a bunch of his weird friends. Now some of them are my friends. Yech. How can I get rid of them? I'll start by thanking you for not asking "how can I get rid of my little brother", though you sure sound frustrated! I can't blame you, actually. Social networking sites like Facebook are very personal and I can see where it'd be a major problem to have someone "friending" people who aren't actually your friends. Not only does it imply your desire to be friends with them - which can be a problem - but you then have to see them in your live feed, etc. Not so good. Okay, so we'll leave your brother out of this for a minute and let me just quickly show you how to unfriend people on Facebook. On the top of your home page in Facebook is a link "Friends". Move your cursor over it and you'll see a couple of options: ![]() If your brother's efforts are new, you can choose "Recently Added", but I'll choose "All Friends" instead, a nice way to step through and ensure you know everyone to whom you're connected (which I would categorize as a must for kids, btw). You'll see a potentially long list of every one of your friends, each looking like this typical entry: ![]() To unfriend someone, click on the "X" to the right of their name. Facebook will want you to confirm it, which is reasonable: ![]() If you're sure you want to remove the friend from your friend list, click on "Remove". Done. Now, go change your password on Facebook too and make sure you don't walk away with your account logged in. Every time, just as a habit, click on "Logout". And while we're at it, you should know that I have quite a bit of Facebook help here on the site and that I also have an Ask Dave Taylor Facebook Fan Page that I invite you to join.

My god - as if they didn't make it intuitive enough already. These questions have to be made up just to drive traffic to this site from Search Engines. Posted by: Josh at December 3, 2009 12:53 PMNope, not made up. You'd be surprised how many people understand one facet of a service like Facebook but are completely stumped by another part of it. Posted by: Dave Taylor at December 3, 2009 2:33 PMAnd I am regularly reminded at my job, intuitive is relative. An "X" may look to you as un-friend, but to many is looks like "close this window". Posted by: Dempsey at December 5, 2009 11:12 PMVery interesting, there is so much to learn. I am taking in methods and ideas to use with my intention to setup a blog. Posted by: jpowell51 at December 23, 2009 8:16 PMThat's all very well, Facebook is easy however I have it on the iPhone and it is impossible to unfriend - unless I'm missing something?? Posted by: Warlock at January 7, 2010 10:57 AMI have something to say, now that you mention it, but ...
I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
