How can I get to the Internet from my Sony PSP?
I have bought a sony psp and I would like to get internet on it. I have a windows xp and my internet connection is a bt broadband basic, it runs at 2.2 Mbps. my sony psp has a system 2.00.is there any way to put inernet on it.

You have a pretty common configuration and there's good and bad news. The good news is that yes, you can definitely get your Sony PSP onto the Internet with the setup you have. The bad news is that I'm not exactly right when I say "with the setup you have" because you're going to need to buy what's called a wireless router to connect.
Basically, the setup you have works like this:
highspeed Internet connection from service provider (BT in your case)
connects to
highspeed modem
connects via Ethernet cable to
your computer
What you need to do is add the new device between the modem and your computer, so that the Ethernet is unplugged from your PC and plugged into the new wifi device, which then has its own additional Ethernet plug that lets you hook directly to your PC. So now, instead of one device between your computer and "the street" (if you will), you'll have two.
There are cheap solutions like a Netgear Wireless 4-Port Router for $35 at Amazon.com, but I instead suggest that you spend a bit more and get a wireless unit that supports both the old 802.11b and newer (faster!) 802.11g protocols. Here's what I use: Linksys Wireless-G Router for about $60.
While you can configure the wireless network with a password, since the Sony PSP claims to support the various secure wireless protocols, my experience is that it never connects properly. Instead, I suggest you leave it password-free, though it's not particularly secure. If you have good neighbors, you're probably safe...
Anyway, the details of configuring the wireless router are specific on the model you buy, so I can't help with that part of the question, but I hope this will let you get going in the right direction.

hey, i just got a PSP and people say you can put internet on it. i googled "putting internet on my PSP" and this is what most sites told me: network sttings, infrastructure mode, connection1, go over to custom, manual, then type in a number in the theprimary DNS, click next and save and you can get on now. i cant click next or save you have to have numbers in each slot of every topic. i dont know if you can help me but can you dumb this procedure down for a blonde? i cant get it pn there.

While your router may not be the same model I have, the settings will be similar.
You NEED a router or access point or wifi hot spot to connect to the internet. You HAVE to set up the network connection before you can connect. If your network isnt using wep encryption , it should be as easy as following the steps in the article i posted and omit the wep part. theres no need to enter the dns settings all the time.
Be smart and try the easiest way first.
If you have the version of your PSP and the version of it is "PSP 1001" can you still put the internet in your psp?
Eazy-E, you don't "put" the Internet on your PSP, you access the Internet from your PSP. The capability is included in the more recent firmware updates (firmware is the "operating system" of the PSP) and yes, the 1001 units should be able to upgrade and work fine.
Once you have the capability, however, you also need connectivity, so you'll need to be near a wireless Internet connection (aka "wifi hotspot" or "802.11b network"). Then scan, find the connection, connect, and you should be cruisin'...

How do you access the internet to your psp without wipeout pure
Brian, the "Wipeout Pure" Internet access was a hack and is only relevant on early PSP firmware releases. I believe it was the 2.0 release that introduced full Internet access within the Sony world itelf, and by the latest version, 2.6, there's a nice web browser and much more incorporated. So your best bet to get online is to actually just upgrade your firmware to the latest version.

oi oi. i have a psp version 2.6. I have no problems connecting to a wireless connection point and going onto the internet.but for one reason i can only be on it in a specific place,holding my psp at arms reach above my head. today i got on the internet with my psp and you can save it on there go to network update then scan if you get 55% or more save the settings and connect then it will say downloading do not shut off power or remove memorystick when it gets to 100% you done then you should be able to access the net anywere

I had recently purchased a WiFiMax to use with my cable modem in order to get online with my PSP.The the setup went fine and the PSP could see the computer with 100% signal strength but I kept getting an error that said it had timed out and could not get the IP address. After two days of reading and searching for solutions I called My ISP and found out why..You must have some sort of router that is capable of assigning multipul IP's..If you are only using a Cable/DSL Modem it will not work because they only give out one IP..I took the access point back to the store and bought a D-link wireless Router hooked it up to the modem and was able to get online Right away...Hope this helps anyone that has the same problem

My wireless security is set at infrastructure mode WPA-PSK(TKIP) and i already have my wep key. My signal strength is about 73%+. There is another way to secure your internet connection while using your PSP on your wireless router, MAC address filtering. only allows the devices you want to connect. review your wireless router documentation to see how to set up MAC address filtering

Ok I UPDATE my network and i didnt like the verison 3.03 and I wont the old version 2-50 cuz on the 3.03 verison it doesnt let you play or add videos and i need videos on my PSP! I purchased a PSP for my son, and have been trying to get an internet connection through my wireless network, but have been unsuccesful. I do have a secured network that I manage, and have put in all of the info, including the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Router, Primary DNS, down to the Secondary DNS. I get this message everytime: "A connection error has occurred. A connection to the access point could not be established. Check the security settings for the network and try again". I had that same problem with my internet access on the PSP. It was because of the settings on my wireless router. Something was blocking the internet access. I reset my router, and set it back to the default settings (the router). After I did this, I had to reconfigure the router, which I was informed by linksys that I should have called them for help, but now everything works fine. It may be some type of firewall setting or blockage in your router which is causing your problem...........Good Luck!!!!!!!!

Poor advice, not to set up a password on your router. Doing this is leaving you open to more than just allowing people to use your internet for free. They can join your network and spy on your local traffic. If you really can't get your PSP to work with a password, at least restrict the MAC addresses that can connect to the router (to your PC and PSP). Many routers support this. With your PC and/or PSP connected you should be able to see the MAC addresses from the configuration client and type them in to the list of permitted addresses, ticking a box to block any others. You should do this even if you have managed to set up password protection.

My wife just bought me a PSP for Christmas and the only thing I have done with it was to play games while I was traveling. I finally had some time to try to see what other cool things I could do with it. I have a Netgear wireless router, and both my wife and I use it (can connect with no problem) to our laptops with our WEP Key.
I tried to do the same with the PSP, but for some reason it will not connect. I followed the instructions: The PSP sees my connection, the signal is 100%, I input the KEY and then when I try and test the connection it gives me an error. I thought maybe something was wrong with the PSP, so I went to a friend's house, and tried it there. He uses an 8 digit KEY, I use a 32bit KEY. I can connect to the internet at his house, no problem.
I dont understand why my wireless works for our laptops, but not for the PSP. BTW, I think my PSP version is 2.6
ok, so i find a "hot spot" with about 20% or so of detection,and i try accessing the internet, but the dang system wants some sort of code or something before it lets me on. I dont have my internet lock on, so im quite sure that its the access point not letting me through. are certain access points blocked off to the public?I just need to figure out these codes. I have already been on the internet with my psp... but now all I get is the error message

that is sutch a lie you dont need a wireles router for your psp unless you want direct internet on your psp have to types of psp a white one and the black but all you need to get on the internet is a good conection
What is it you think is a lie, Mohammed? That you need some sort of wireless base station to be able to connect a Sony PSP to the Internet? I agree that you can use a wireless base station that isn't also a router if you have the option (which saves you a few bucks, at best, but gives you a far less flexible long-term network topology), but there is no way to connect via USB and having a fast wired connection into your home/office is NOT enough for the PSP to be able to utilize it.

I was having the 80110404 error. My PSP was finding the network, and it was connecting. I just couldn't get on the internet. Tried auto and manual config. Had my wireless router configured properly. I noticed my router had a 3rd DNS entry. So I manually entered that third entry into my PSP as the first DNS server, and left the second one blank. Voila! I am now online. So, poke around in your router settings and look for a 3rd DNS entry. Good luck

wow, there are some sad people out there.
the fisrt big problem i heard was most people thinking that you "put" the internet on your psp. not at all. what is happening is you are accessing a wireless router to the interent through your psp. second of all, of course you need to have a router! if you do have a router that is not secure you should just have to go on your psp to the "internet browser" tab and click X. (oh, and make sure the switch on the left is on.) if there isnt an internet browser, then you need to go to the psp website (which is psp.com, i think) and update, or, if yours is hacked, get a new custom firmware.

Kenneth, as far as I am aware, no, thre's no way to utilize your USB cord to get online with a Sony PSP. It'd be cool if there was, though!

if you want internet on your psp you can just go to were you go on internet make sure if you have the right psp were it has a little wlan switch make sure you turn that off and if yu type in yahoo.com it will say connection error and then you go back by pressing o it will say that it will say new connection if you have a router in yur house then your ok then this is were you turn on your wlan switch located at the top of your psp once you turn it on click x on new connection you will then see options scan, enter manually, automatic, use wireless hotspot wat you are going to do is press x on scan it will pick up your router signal if you live in a neighbor hood then you might pick up more signals they will say the signal strength pick the one with the highest signal strength make sure the security is none you will have less problems now you press x on that one it will say ssid just puch your right arrow on that one next it will say wlan security setting just click x on none then press x on custom click on automatic dns setting automatic proxy server do not use that then it will say internet browser click start then it will say connection name just push your right arrow on that one then it will say setting list just use your arrows to scroll down then scroll baack up ok then press x on that one then it will say press x button to save settings press x ok now it will put yu back to the begging click on watever it says your routers name is the name may be different but its ok once you have clicked that you will now have internet and you press triangle to bring up the address bar

Well, for one thing, do you have a firewall up? If so, configure it to let your PSP's MAC address through. This is the main problem for PSP users connection to the net. There should be some tuts on this site that could help you with that. Here's some more troubleshooting tips:
1. Do you have a modem behind your wirless router? You'll either open up some ports in your modem to let the internet through or make sure all the setings are correct on your router's setup screen (for Belkins, type 192.168.2.1 intop your address bar).
2. Did you give the PSP your WEP key if you set up security for your router? Or is there a default WEP key you need to copy? Go to the setup screen.
3. Is your WLAN switch on? Lol, noob question I know.
4. Did you set up the router correctly? Make 100% SURE ABSOLUTLY TEN BILLION TIMES OVER that you formatted it correctly.
That's all the wisdum that I have.

it is easy even if you have security look on the router for "WEP" it will say the 10 digit code use it to access the internet...

just download a psp game in ur phone or pc & Move to ur psp...!

hey, i just got a PSP and people say you can put internet on it. i googled "putting internet on my PSP" and this is what most sites told me: network sttings, infrastructure mode, connection1, go over to custom, manual, then type in a number in the theprimary DNS, click next and save and you can get on now. i cant click next or save you have to have numbers in each slot of every topic. i dont know if you can help me but can you dumb this procedure down for a blonde? i cant get it pn there.
