How can I get to the Internet from my Sony PSP?

I have bought a sony psp and I would like to get internet on it. I have a windows xp and my internet connection is a bt broadband basic, it runs at 2.2 Mbps. my sony psp has a system 2.00.is there any way to put inernet on it.

You have a pretty common configuration and there's good and bad news. The good news is that yes, you can definitely get your Sony PSP onto the Internet with the setup you have. The bad news is that I'm not exactly right when I say "with the setup you have" because you're going to need to buy what's called a wireless router to connect.

Basically, the setup you have works like this:

highspeed Internet connection from service provider (BT in your case)

connects to

highspeed modem

connects via Ethernet cable to

your computer

What you need to do is add the new device between the modem and your computer, so that the Ethernet is unplugged from your PC and plugged into the new wifi device, which then has its own additional Ethernet plug that lets you hook directly to your PC. So now, instead of one device between your computer and "the street" (if you will), you'll have two.

There are cheap solutions like a Netgear Wireless 4-Port Router for $35 at Amazon.com, but I instead suggest that you spend a bit more and get a wireless unit that supports both the old 802.11b and newer (faster!) 802.11g protocols. Here's what I use: Linksys Wireless-G Router for about $60.

While you can configure the wireless network with a password, since the Sony PSP claims to support the various secure wireless protocols, my experience is that it never connects properly. Instead, I suggest you leave it password-free, though it's not particularly secure. If you have good neighbors, you're probably safe...

Anyway, the details of configuring the wireless router are specific on the model you buy, so I can't help with that part of the question, but I hope this will let you get going in the right direction.

What is it you think is a lie, Mohammed? That you need some sort of wireless base station to be able to connect a Sony PSP to the Internet? I agree that you can use a wireless base station that isn't also a router if you have the option (which saves you a few bucks, at best, but gives you a far less flexible long-term network topology), but there is no way to connect via USB and having a fast wired connection into your home/office is NOT enough for the PSP to be able to utilize it.

I was having the 80110404 error. My PSP was finding the network, and it was connecting. I just couldn't get on the internet. Tried auto and manual config. Had my wireless router configured properly. I noticed my router had a 3rd DNS entry. So I manually entered that third entry into my PSP as the first DNS server, and left the second one blank. Voila! I am now online. So, poke around in your router settings and look for a 3rd DNS entry. Good luck

wow, there are some sad people out there.
the fisrt big problem i heard was most people thinking that you "put" the internet on your psp. not at all. what is happening is you are accessing a wireless router to the interent through your psp. second of all, of course you need to have a router! if you do have a router that is not secure you should just have to go on your psp to the "internet browser" tab and click X. (oh, and make sure the switch on the left is on.) if there isnt an internet browser, then you need to go to the psp website (which is psp.com, i think) and update, or, if yours is hacked, get a new custom firmware.

my problem is i cant get on my dad's wireless, because he has some strange setting it seems. the only thing that is different on his than others is it has a password. any help?
