i've tried to log into it on several different computer systems, but there's just something wrong with that profile.

I'm afraid I don't know what to advise, other than to contact the MySpace people and work it out with them. It's all about verification of your identity so that someone else doesn't delete your MySpace account by sneaking into your profile.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, you can't delete your MySpace account if you don't have access to that email address.

I created a MySpace account about 6 months ago and it was going good until one day when I could not log in. I clicked on "lost password" and entered my email address and it says it doesn't exist. Poof! My email address has been erased from their database. I emailed them about it and got the typical email they send telling me about cookies blah blah blah. Thats not my problem. The problem lies with their database. Then I tell them to just delete the damn thing. They asked for a salute so I sent them one. Hello. Okay so I have been phished on myspace. So it asks me to change my password. First I logged out and logged back in to make sure i was in the right site, myspace. When I changed my password, now i"m locked out. It says this:

if you got locked for being phished in the last hour, it's a bug! we're working on fixing it right now. sorry about that! the mechanism to detect if your account has been phished has been very powerful for stopping phishing, but it went a little haywire just now. things should be back to normal soon! if you're wondering what phishing is, read my blog :)

Now I am not sure if Tom locked me out or the phisher!! Please let me know how to proceed. At this point I'm afraid to do anything!

MySpace is not sending confirmation email for cancelling accounts.
They are sending other messages, allowing you to change your email address or your password, but are not sending confirmation emails for cancelled accounts.
They do not respond to emails, support emails at any of their sites.
They simply refuse to respond.
Until they fix this, I recommend that nobody start a new account on MySpace. You may put up information about yourself, and be locked out of your account, or have it remain on the internet forever.

Try posting pornography especially to your profile image if you can sign in. This will likely lead to a ban. Just a suggestion though.

I sent a complaint to the Better Business Bureau, and I suggest you all do the same as well. A search of "Remove Profile" results in hundreds of people who want their accounts deleted but haven't been deleted yet. Isn't it clear to you all that myspace wants to keep you from leaving the site. It sucks! It took me more than a month and many emails to finally get my account "closed." It sucks a big time! I think we ought to bring a legal action against Myspace if it makes it so difficult or will not close our accounts upon our requests. If you want to cancel your account, just delete all your friends/comments/layouts/pictures/names/etc.. Then you will have nothing but a blank page, I have just done this myself.

An update on my prior comments. Myspace finally made my profile info out of the sight, and later on also removed my name. It takes so many steps and it really tries patience. So if you want to do it do-it-yourself way, just follow Tim's tips (see right above), which is a great idea. But you have to be able to login to your account to do that. Otherwise, you need to keep on emailing Myspace until they solve the problem. Just don't give up.

Paul, you're right, but MySpace has made it darn tricky; there are now two completely different versions of the user interface in play, the original (which can have a few different skins) and the new 2.0 interface which changes a LOT of stuff. I'm working on some 2.0 interface update articles, though, so stay tuned.

Myspace is RIDICULOUS. I am fed up with them. They come up with all sorts of strategies to reduce cancellations by Myspace members. It is easy for someone to 'click' the "cancel my account" button, HOWEVER the challenge begins with the cancellation request CONFIRMATION email.
When I first signed up for my Myspace account, I signed up with a FREE msn/hotmail email address(which I have accessed for a long time and still access since it's free) to login. About a year later I changed my login email address to an ATT paid email address(that is when I became a customer of ATT's internet service). I suddenly cancelled my ATT internet service one day, which means the ATT email address that goes along with it cancelled also. I had intentions of changing my Myspace login email address to a free email account. HOWEVER, that was unsuccessful also! It appears that Myspace had changed the feature of allowing members to change their primary login email address! Obviously, the feature USED to be available since I ONCE was able to change from a free msn email account to an ATT email account as my login. Ugh! I realized I was STUCK with having my non-existant ATT email address as my Myspace primary email address. NOW that I am trying to cancel my Myspace account, I cannot because my previous ATT email account is obviously no longer active and inaccessible. Myspace has no backup programming to send the "cancellation request" confirmation email to my ORIGINAL email address that I signed up with( which is my free hotmail email that I have had forever)??????? ALSO, they have no software programming to send the "cancellation request" confirmation email to my secondary email address that Myspace has on file(which happends to be a free hotmail account)????? I mean come on... if my ATT email address no longer exist, then that means any emails(cancellaton confirmation email) sent there would BOUNCE back to the sender, which is MYSPACE!!!! Why can't Myspace send cancellation request confirmation emails to an original free email address that the member FIRST used to sign up with? OR, if the member has a secondary email address on file, WHY can't Myspace send the cancellation request confirmation email to that one IF the primary email is not active???

Do me a favor Myspace. PLEASE only allow FREE email accounts to be used for new member signups. DO NOT allow paid email accounts to be used.

On some sites like Skype and ICQ you can't even cancel your account at all, your info just gets stored for ever! #fail

I click all the correct buttons, but then I never receive the email they claim that they are going to send. I set all my settings to private but information still leaks out through Google.

So I had to go and change everything to false information to protect my privacy

I am trying to delete my myspace account with you, as i never use it, BUT am extremely disappointed with the fact that it is easy to create an account, but near on impossible to delete it, where your sign says,click to uninstall, it will not allow me to do so, you could make life easier for people to move on, instead of making it impossible,

I realize this is an old thread but I'm hoping (dave) or someone can help me out. I understand how to delete myspace acct. My problem is that I can't log into the older version. I'm being directed to the newer version. Do I have to sign into this newer version in order to cancel the older acct? Or, does his mean I'll have two accounts that will be viewable to the public?
Spokeo and other malicious websites gather all our personal information and make it viewable to anybody. This certainly makes me rethink all my online activity, especially since a lot of the information they display is either false, or it completely outdated.
My profile shows an address from 15 years ago, plus all the social networks Ive been on- half of which I dont recognize. My gf brought this to my attention.
