How can I delete my MySpace account?

I'm done with MySpace. After all the bad publicity and weirdoes that are apparently hanging out on the site, I want to just cut free and leave no trace behind. How do I do that, Dave?

Dave's Answer:

Well, first off can I point out that with millions of members, MySpace inevitably has some oddballs just as you would find in any group of that size. The vast majority of people on the site, however, seem to be nice friendly folk. Perhaps you need to revise your friend list rather than leave entirely?

Anyway, if you are prepared to cancel and quit your account, here's how you do it.

First, log in and click on "Account Settings" next to your page, then click on "Change Account Settings". You'll see:

You want to click on the link "Cancel Account". Now you'll get the big warning:

"WARNING: Cancelling your MySpace account will PERMANENTLY REMOVE all of your profile information from MySpace, including your photographs, comments, journals, and your personal network of friends. This information cannot be restored. You may re-register your current email address after cancelling, but you will need to rebuild your personal network from scratch."

and you'll see this:

If this is truly what you want to do, click on "Cancel My Account" and you'll vanish from the world of MySpace, from everyone's friends list, and similar. You can then start over, or you can leave it alone forever.

I'm afraid I don't know what to advise, other than to contact the MySpace people and work it out with them. It's all about verification of your identity so that someone else doesn't delete your MySpace account by sneaking into your profile.

Unfortunately, as far as I know, you can't delete your MySpace account if you don't have access to that email address.

Hello. Okay so I have been phished on myspace. So it asks me to change my password. First I logged out and logged back in to make sure i was in the right site, myspace. When I changed my password, now i"m locked out. It says this:

if you got locked for being phished in the last hour, it's a bug! we're working on fixing it right now. sorry about that! the mechanism to detect if your account has been phished has been very powerful for stopping phishing, but it went a little haywire just now. things should be back to normal soon! if you're wondering what phishing is, read my blog :)

Now I am not sure if Tom locked me out or the phisher!! Please let me know how to proceed. At this point I'm afraid to do anything!

MySpace is not sending confirmation email for cancelling accounts.
They are sending other messages, allowing you to change your email address or your password, but are not sending confirmation emails for cancelled accounts.
They do not respond to emails, support emails at any of their sites.
They simply refuse to respond.
Until they fix this, I recommend that nobody start a new account on MySpace. You may put up information about yourself, and be locked out of your account, or have it remain on the internet forever.

the reason why i need to recreate the account as a band profile and want to use the same url . But I dont know what to do. I am getting paid to do this for a radio dj and they are waiting on me. I am waiting on Myspace to delete it. Geeeesh what gives?

Try posting pornography especially to your profile image if you can sign in. This will likely lead to a ban. Just a suggestion though.
