How can I access Rhapsody with my Sonos Player?

I have a Sonos system all set up, and it’s really sweet. A couple of quick questions, however. I got a subscription to Rhapsody for Father’s Day – can the Sonos work with it? Also, can I set up my favorite free radio station to work with the Sonos?

Dave's Answer:

Never fear, the Sonos Digital Music Player will work with both of those scenarios.

First, to set up the system with Rhapsody, open the Sonos Desktop Controller, click "Music", and click on "Internet Radio" then click on "Music Services" on the righthand side:

Sonos accessing the Rhapsody Music Service

You'll see a link to help you enable Rhapsody. It'll walk you through the steps necessary for starting Real Rhapsody and enabling it for use with the Sonos.

Follow the guide, and you'll be able to use Rhapsody right from your Sonos remote, as just another audio source. Darn handy!

Setting up a streaming radio station

To set up a streaming radio station that is a free service, go back to the Sonos Desktop Controller, click on "Music", and click on "Internet Radio." On the bottom right, click on "Add New" again:

Input the URL (which you can get by right-clicking on the link on the channel's Web page and choosing "Copy Link") and the name of the station and you'll be able to access from the Sonos Remote. That's all there is to it. Now you can enjoy your Internet radio through the Sonos just like any other audio source.

Curious what I listen to? One of my favorite Internet radio stations is Hawaiian Rainbow, playing traditional Hawaiian music all the time. Just add a breeze and some plumeria and it's like a mini-holiday!
