Now that I have the Facebook app running on my new Asus Transformer Windows 8 tablet, how do I upload and share a photo I took onto Facebook for my friends to enjoy?
First off I do have to share that while I really like the iOS (iPad) Facebook app and Android version of the Facebook app, the version written for Windows 8 seems to be quite a bit more sparse with far less functionality and an interface that always makes me wonder what’s missing since it has so much empty space and unutilized screen real estate. Hopefully over time that’ll improve, but your first bet is always just going to the mobile version in the Web browser on your Win8 tablet.
It’s also the case that there’s a surprising lack of a ‘share’ button in the Photo Album app on Windows 8 too, something that I use extensively on my iPhone to post images directly to Twitter, Facebook, etc.
Ah well, we’ve got what we’ve got at this point, so let’s jump in.
Once you get Facebook for Windows 8 running, your home screen is going to look like this:
To share a photograph from your Tablet, tap on “Photo” on the top.
Then the right side changes, as you can see here:
Since I already have a photo I want to share, I’ll tap on “Choose from Library”, but you could also tap “Take Photo” too.
At this point you’ll switch to the full-screen photo album viewer:
Tap on “Camera Roll” to get to your photos (a somewhat unnecessary step in my opinion) and here’s what I see, at least:
The second photo is the one I want, so I tap on it, then tap on “Select images to upload”.
The image is then uploaded to Facebook (but not yet posted):
Again, everything’s happening on the right side.
Now, enter whatever message you want, tag the location and people, as desired, and it’ll look like this:
Looks good? I mean, it’s a small thumbnail, but have faith, it gets bigger once you post it.
Which you can do by tapping on “Post” on the top right.
The photo itself? Gorgeous. The Dell Venue 8 Pro camera does a very nice job!
Now we just need to get the Facebook app updated.
