I tweet tons of photos and pictures, but I’d like to share video content too. Can I record video within the iPhone iOS 8 “Twitter” app, and if so, how do I share it afterwards?
Twitter has supported video for a while but the company’s really upped their game with the video and other media content to help make Twitter itself more lively and interesting. That’s good for those of us who like to watch little video snippets a la Instagram or Vine, but stick with the reliable world of Twitter.
I won’t talk about how to edit and custom tweak Twitter video content – though there are some really interesting edit capabilities, you can learn more about them on the Twitter Web site – so let’s just focus on the process of recording and sharing a video snippet.
Unfortunately I wasn’t anywhere scenic or picturesque when I wrote this so the video ain’t going to blow your socks off. 🙂
To start, the Twitter home screen on the iPhone 6:
To create a new tweet, tap on the box with the feather across it on the top right, just below the battery icon.
You should recognize this screen:
Here’s the key: tap on the blue camera icon on the lower left, don’t just start typing in your tweet.
It’s possible that Twitter will ask permission to use your microphone for the video recording if you haven’t posted a video already from Twitter:
Want your video to have audio? Yeah, well, click “OK”.
Then you can record the video. It’ll look like this:
Look closely at the icon in the lower circle. At this point it’s a camera. Tap on it and you’ll take a photograph.
Instead, tap on the red video camera (actually, I don’t have a clue what that icon’s supposed to represent). It’ll change and the preview area will become square:
Now to record a video you’ll need to tap and hold the red video camera icon, which makes it a bit tricky to also keep the iPhone stable.
Once the video segment is recorded, you’ll have a chance to record more:
Let’s just proceed by accepting this first video as recorded, warts and all.
Tap “Done” on the top right.
Now add your comment, tag the location if desired, etc. All the usual steps associated with a tweet.
Ready? Here’s what mine looks like just before I post:
and I am ready to post. So tap on “Tweet” on the top right.
That’s it. Done.
And there ya have it. Enjoy posting all your twitter videos.
Oh, and if you’d like to follow me on Twitter, I’m @DaveTaylor there.
