What are the hot toys for sale on eBay for Christmas 2008?

There are a lot of different places to identify the most popular gadgets and toys for sale on eBay, but they all seem to involve doing lots of work. Basically, you need to come up with a list of a few hundred different possibilities and then do searches for each of them, comparing the number of results for each. A good place to start would be at Amazon.com, where search results can show you the most popular matches for, say, an MP3 player.

There are also trade publications that can be a starting point, like TD Monthly, which has both a ten most wanted gifts for girls and ten most wanted gifts for boys list based on what retailers are reporting as their best sellers.

Turns out, however, that eBay public relations team (Kaplow PR) was helpful with this too, and according to them, here's a list of what's hot on the site and what eBay Toy and Gadget Director Catherine Schwartz thinks will be hot:

• Currently 1,426 Microsoft Zune MP3 players available on eBay.com.
• Over the past week 1,940 units have sold for an average price of $192.36.
• Average Buy It Now price over the past week was $242.64.

Rock Band Special Edition

• Currently 1,751 Rock Band Special Edition video games available on eBay.com.
• Over the past week 2,706 units have sold for an average price of $213.05.
• Average Buy It Now price over the past week was $228.40.

American Idol Talent Challenge

• Currently 25 American Idol Talent Challenge games available on eBay.com.
• Over the past week 5 units have sold for an average price of $43.98.
• Average Buy It Now price over the past week was $53.79.

Power Tour Electric Guitar

• Currently 80 Power Tour Electric Guitars available on eBay.com.
