Why can't I Enable Google AdSense on my Website Pages?A person named Kavita posted a comment elsewhere on my blog that stated: "my site is activated from google adsense i m unable to paste code in website i tried many times but i failed can u help plz?" It's a much bigger problem than a bad cut and paste, however, and something critical for people running AdSense to realize... First off, Kavita's problem was revealed when upon closer examination, I saw that his Web site was being hosted on the domain "freewebs.com". Why is that a problem? Because Freewebs, like many other hosting sites, disables JavaScript, which means that while you certainly can cut and paste the Google AdSense code onto a Freewebs page, it'll be munged when saved and ultimately will be prevented from working when people view the page. In effect, no ads, no revenue. [Tip: if you want to stay on Freewebs and include AdSense ads, you might look into their premium services as a possible solution] But Freewebs is hardly alone. A huge site that disables JavaScript is MySpace, and if you're in the blogging world, Wordpress.com also blocks JavaScript inclusion on pages they host. What do these three services have in common? They're all free hosting solutions. Sign up with their service and you can host your Web site or blog without charge. Of course, a quick glance shows that most "free" services also have advertising (esp. MySpace) but that's their adverts and that's how they offset the cost of running the business. While they could theoretically let you include advertising too, the reality is that they don't, and they go through rather significant efforts to prevent you from sneaking any ads in yourself. Wordpress.com is even more aggressive: not only do they prevent you including things like Google AdSense advertising, but if they deem your weblog to be too commercial, they'll shut you down, often with precious little warning. If you are building a site with the intent of adding AdSense to it and generating some revenue, it therefore is very important that you identify a good hosting client that is commerce and advertising friendly. Blogger.com, from Google, is AdSense friendly, for example, and a credible competitor to Wordpress. I hope that clears up why you can sometimes add the Google AdSense code to your site but not have it work properly. It's all about the backend... :-) By the way, if you are just thinking about joining the world of AdSense, I suggest that you start by reading my popular article Getting Started Making Money with Google AdSense.
