Delete an unwanted post off my Facebook fan page wall?

Every so often someone posts something on the wall of my Facebook fan page that I'd like to remove, but while pre-Timeline it was easy to figure out, now I can't for the life of me find the delete button or link on their postings. I don't want to actually disable fans from leaving comments on our Wall, however, I just want to be able to moderate it occasionally.

Dave's Answer:

Ah yes, if there's one thing that's constant it's that Facebook is going to change its interface in the near future. In fact, as soon as you have everything figured out is when they'll have yet another change, yet another quasi-random tweak to the user interface that retrospectively will actually make sense and be smart, but will be crazy frustrating at the time.

Kind of like what you're talking about with this question.

I too have a Facebook fan page -- Ask Dave Taylor on Facebook ("like" us now!) -- and 95% of the time I really like the comments and additions people leave, but every so often there's a comment or note someone leaves that just doesn't help or is something I just don't understand. Here's how I deal with it...

First off, you'll need to be the administrator of the fan page: without that, you won't have permission to make the changes, nor will you see the administrative header info, including this very typical notification:

You can see here that Andreiy has posted something on the Ask Dave Taylor timeline. Okay, let's have a look and see what he left!

Well, hmmm.... not sure what it says, but hopefully it's something positive. Still, since the fan page is in English I'm going to delete this particular posting because, well, because I don't know what it says.

To delete it is very non-intuitive because you need to change the "broadcast range" of the individual entry. Move the cursor over the little globe and it'll tell you that it's visible to the public at large:

Click on that very same icon, however, and a menu appears with some options:

How that makes sense as a way to delete things escapes me, but that's the fun of Facebook for ya! Select "Delete..." and you'll have a couple of options available:

I am definitely not going to ban Andreiy, but I'll delete this individual wall posting by clicking on "Delete". If it was part of a long series of unhelpful postings, however, I'd instead click on "Delete and Ban User" and they'd be unable to return to the fan page and post additional material from their Facebook account.

Changed your mind about the posting? Click on "Cancel".
