Can I delete a MySpace comment I left for someone else?

I saw your earlier article about Deleting MySpace comments on someone else's profile in which you said that it can't be done. But you're wrong. You can indeed delete comments by choosing "Show All Comments" in their profile, then you'll get a "delete" option for your own. Check it out!

Dave's Answer:

By jupiter, you're right! :-)

Let me show you how I tested out your suggestion and found out that indeed my previous blog entry was wrong and how you can indeed delete comments that you've left on someone else's MySpace profile. And thank goodness for that.

First, I'll leave a comment on a friends' profile by clicking on the "Add Comment" link just above his block of comments:

MySpace: Leaving Comment On Someone Else's Profile

Click "submit", verify your comment on the subsequent page, and it's there and appears to be under their control, not mine:

MySpace: Comment Left On Someone Else's Profile

The trick, as you so kindly highlight, is to choose "View All" on their profile page. Sure enough, a new link appears:

MySpace: View All Comments On Someone Else's Profile

Notice that the comment I've left has "Delete My Comment", but the comment left by Miss Mones on this profile doesn't have that option. That makes sense, since I shouldn't be able to delete someone else's comment on this profile. I click on "Delete My Comment" and am prompted to verify what I've done:

MySpace: Are you sure you want to delete this MySpace comment?

One click on "OK" and my comment has vanished again. Of course, the owner of the MySpace Profile will get a new comment notice and then won't be able to find it when they visit their page, but I'm guessing that they also get a "Comment Deleted By User" message too, so it won't be too much of a mystery.

Anyway, THANK YOU for correcting this mistake on my blog. There are a lot of MySpace users who are going to be very happy to learn this little trick!

Comments

Thank you for showing how to delete myspace comments, but now I have another question, our teenager claims that someone with her password has gone into myspace and changed comments that she left on other peoples profiles, in other words, she said "Hi, how are you" and they added a bunch of dirty words etc. etc. to her comment. Is this possible???

I am unable to delete comments from my MySpace webpage. every time I attempt to delete the offending comment I receive an error message, no matter which browser I am using (Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer, etc...) Is there something wrong with MySpace?

this is GREAT news! I sent comments which weren't necessarily embarrassing/inflammatory, but the next comments referenced mine and put me in a bad light. Details. So now I've cleared THAT little mess up.

Thanks thanks thanks!

I think this problem has to do with my Vista, but I am not sure....Since I got my new computer, I cannot view comments on ceratin people's pages who have special layouts, and the boxes where their info is won't go bigger, let's say if they have a survey in it! It is becoming very annoying!!

I keep getting emails saying I have new comments on my myspace page, but they don't show up on the page. Do I have to enable comments to be seen? I am on a Mac.

Posted by: Larry at December 26, 2007 2:26 PM

However, this doesn't seem to work on comments you leave on blogs... :/

Posted by: Dizzle at February 2, 2008 5:58 PM

don't feel bad dave, it was actually relatively new that you could remove comments on other's page. it might not have even been possible when you posted but when you were told it was possible it was because it was just created. we still love you dave. lol hugz.

Posted by: corrine at February 13, 2008 8:53 PM

I think this may be limited to profiles that have there comments to be posted without approval because I just tried this without success.

Thanks for any help

Hi, speaking of deleting... I have a question. Is there a way to delete someone else's comments in your own tagged photos folder on myspace?

Posted by: Dani at July 1, 2008 7:23 PM

I have a lot to say, but ...
Starbucks coffee cup I have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but most of all I'd like to say thank you for all your efforts on this Web site by buying you a chai!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
