Happy to have a new Samsung Galaxy S7, and am enjoying exploring Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Wondering if there’s an easy way to customize or change my Quick Settings within the Settings app?
Android 6.0 is a great update to the popular smart device operating system but there are still some oddities to the interface design nonetheless. Generally I find if you just push and poke at various buttons and features you can find things, but sometimes I do wonder why they are using one label instead of another, made things not appear like buttons, etc. Consistency.
In terms of the Settings app, there’s obviously quite a bit you can change and fine-tune in terms of your experience with your Samsung Galaxy S7 or other Marshmallow-friendly Android phone. Quite a bit! But at the very front of the entire Settings experience, there are some options you can bump up to the most favored position of “Quick Setting”. Here’s how…
First, tap on “Settings” on your phone and you’ll be looking at the current Quick Settings:
These are the defaults, sounds, display, themes, lock screen, battery and help.
Now look at the screen and answer the question how do you customize this?
Not easy, is it?
Turns out the secret’s hidden below the MORE button on the top right. Tap on it and you’ll see:
Ah, there ya go! “Edit quick settings“. Tap on it.
Now you’ll see the top of a long list of different settings you can add (or delete!):
If you never find yourself accessing Sounds and vibration, uncheck that particular box. Easy enough.
To add new ones, swipe down to find your favorites, then check on the box.
For example, let’s add “Storage” by swiping down to find it, then checking the adjacent box:
That’s it. When you’re done, simply tap on the leftward-facing arrow on the top left of the screen (adjacent to “Edit quick settings”) and you’ll be back at your Quick Settings, with the new changes reflected:
That’s all there is to it. Once you know about the “MORE” button hiding “Edit” or “Customize”, you can figure it all out quite easily from that point.
Enjoy your Samsung Galaxy S7. And customize it. 🙂
