How do I change my default MySpace Profile photograph?

Did MySpace change things so you can't modify your default picture or photograph? I changed it once before, but now I can't figure out how to update my default photo. Help!

Dave's Answer:

According to Tom's bulletin posted the end of May, 2007, MySpace did indeed change the way you go about modifying your default photo on the system. Let me show you how to do it and you'll see, it's not too bad even with the redesign.

Log in to your MySpace profile and click on "Add/Edit Photos". Now you'll see a blank upload box, but if you scroll down just a bit, you'll find your default photo:

MySpace: Default Photo

It's a bit confusing here, but while you can only see one picture, notice that it shows that there are two pictures, not just one! So what you need to do is click on "View" and you'll see all the photos you've uploaded in your default album:

MySpace: Default Photo: Album

Now click on the photo that you want to use as the new default photograph, and you'll see a bunch of options:

MySpace: Set New Photograph as Default Photo

See the Make Default button? That's what you want. Click on it and you'll get a warning message:

MySpace: Set New Default Photo

Finally, click "OK" and you'll have switched your default photograph on your profile to the new image!

Now, before you're done, you should pop over to my MySpace profile and see if I stuck with the new photo or reverted back to my original portrait! :-)

Update! MySpace has changed how you update your profile photograph or picture, so I've a new, updated tutorial here: How to change your default MySpace profile picture/photograph.

I cannot see any of the options you mentioned. In my myspace account - under edit/view pictures it is complete different than what you talk about :(

You might be having problems if your using a PC, whereas the instructions are for a MAC, you can see this by the windows above.

Its just different wording,
go to upload/change photos > then double click on the folder where your image is > then double click on the image you want.

Now, after this you will notice as mentioned above a small "profile pic" next to this is "set as default"
Just double click on this and it should set it straight away......

Worked perfectly. I must say this design sucks! Thanks for the help.

Sadly absolutely NOTHING EVEN REMOTELY SIMILAR to these options pop up on the screen while trying to change my profile pic If anyone has a more realistic step by step instruction please send me the link.

Thank you

karl and jujumoo...i had the same problem as you and i have a mac. try this. go to where your profile pic should be...underneath will say Photos: Edit|Upload. Click Edit. Click on the Picture of Album "My Photos" or whichever album your pic is in.
Click on the picture you'd like to make your profile pic. Then you have to click it again. It will now appear larger. Now above the picture will be a row of options, the first is "Set as Default" next is "Use as album cover" and so on. Click "Set as Default" and you're golden. Hope this helps!

Dave,
You never answer any of my questions. I have one question and no one can answer it. Is myspace that complicated? Actually, it is not user friendly. I'm not sure if you reply to the e-mail or on this post but some of the comments are old. So, do you know who can answer some myspace questions besides the pathetic people at myspace/help? I'd appreciate any information you can give me. Thank you. Actually, I'll try asking one more time. I am trying to change my contact table to a pretty flower one. The change takes place in Preview Profile but when I save the changes and go to View Profile the contact table is not changed and the wording is deleted accept for "Contact Antoinette". I tried putting the code in About Me, Who I'd Like to Meet, and other places but NOTHING works. Have you ever come across this at all????

Posted by: Antoinette DePrima at September 2, 2008 8:27 PM

this is not working for me. says main photo is blocked or deleted. Just want to put a new photo!!

Posted by: greg at September 2, 2008 8:57 PM

Hi Dave, here's a basic task with a huge problem attached. I can't get any photos to upload to MySpace. I open the MySpace page, click to choose the photos I want, click on 'upload' and then....nothing! Nothing EVER uploads. I have photos on Webshots and other sites, but for the life of me I can't get MySpace to work.

Please help...I'm trying very simply to upload a photo for my profile and can't even do that. By the way - I sent you a friend request and you could reach me that way.

Thanks a bunch!

Posted by: rachel at November 28, 2008 6:32 PM

wow ok i finally got it...i was about to throw my computer through the wall trying to change my profle pic...myspace is so garbage but i finally got it....you can only set your profile pics from your "my photos" album so its pretty simple upload whatever pic you want to that album open the picture and on the top left there should be a set as default button...click it

Posted by: alex at December 2, 2008 1:15 PM

Posted by: marie at January 13, 2009 10:40 PM

I tried everything and the ONLY thing that worked was when I DELETED my other picture. I only had 2 pics, and when the one was deleted, the one I wanted to be the main one automatically popped up in its place. And, the new pic was on all of my OLD comments on other folks' pages.

I have something to say, now that you mention it, but ...
Starbucks coffee cup I do have a lot to say, and questions of my own for that matter, but first I'd like to say thank you for all your efforts on this Web site by buying you a cup of coffee!

I do have a comment, now that you mention it!
