Can I change the background color of my MySpace Group?

I finally figured out how to create a new group on MySpace and now I want to pimp it out with some bling. To start, how can I change the background color of the page? I'll have more questions soon, so don't go anywhere! :-)

Dave's Answer:

Actually, it's not too hard to tweak your MySpace group page (you'll forgive me if I don't use much street jargon, I hope). First off, click on Groups then pick your own group to get to your group management area. The menu looks like this:

MySpace Groups: Navigational Menu

Click on Edit Group and you'll see quite a lot of different settings for your MySpace Group, but it's the Description that you want to tweak. Here's mine:

MySpace Groups: Group Description

Turns out that you can slap any old CSS on the bottom of this field, just as you can with your personal profile on MySpace, but you asked about background colors, so here's how you do that: just copy and paste the following code:

<style type="text/css">
  body { background-color: #99CC99; }
</style>

Different color codes can be found here: HTML color codes. The color I specified is a light green, maybe a bit yechy for your tastes, but I kinda like it!

Anyway, copy and paste that code at the very end of the Description box, choose "Save Changes" and you're done. Congrats, you've changed the background of your Myspace Group.

Needless to say, there's quite a bit more you can do at this point if you're so inspired, and I've quite a bit more information on my site too. Just remember to tell your friends that if you're looking for MySpace Help, here's your solution! :-)

Hello Dave! (in Independence Day's computer accent)

I've been trying to customize my MySpace Group, with very unsuccessful results. I am computer literate but HTML retarded. I have been looking for some sort of group editor... but I can only find profile editor. Thus, my question to you is... do you know where I could find a MySpace GROUP editor? Or if it isn't too much trouble... would you be able to create some kind of generic template that could be alter with different options. Thank you, Brock

Yea, code doesn't work and anyways, I want an entire editor for groups, not just for the background..

I use to use a normal profile editor on it. It use to work ok, but now I wanted to redo it and the images never show up..

Someone find a real editor and one that isn't complicated...

Nice, doesn't work. You have a great tutorial here, and, um, you don't even respond to your own blog posts. That is really great "Tech Support from Ask Dave Taylor!"

Um, easy does it, Ken. I'm doing my best to build a community here, and on just about all the discussion threads (aka blog entries) here, people answer each other's queries when I can't get to them promptly. You could participate too, for example, instead of just posting a virtual "harumph". :-)

My daughter changed her layout. She copied into the about me section, but now it won't let her change it. The backgound only seems to be stuck but I can't figure where the code is. We have deleted all the info and still it is there. Can you help???

Posted by: Jen at April 14, 2008 3:45 AM

I tried it too and it didn't work.:0(

I was wondering. How do I make a div overlay for my group? I have been looking forever for info on it on the web but there's only myspace div codes for normal myspaces - not for groups. I can make a div overlay myself but the codes don't seem to work for a group.. any help would be hot. Thankyou
