Can Motorola RAZR V3c voice records be used as free ringtones?

Dave, can you record voice records and apply them as ringtones in the Motorola RAZR V3?

Dave's Answer:

Yes! First off, you might want to review my article on How to use voice memos on the Motorola RAZR V3c to get the hang of it as it's not at all logical.

Once you've figured out how to create voice memos on your RAZR, all you need to do is to go to the Get Tunes and Tones area:

Motorola RAZR V3c: Get Tunes and Tones

Then find your new audio recording, probably at the very bottom of the list:

Motorola RAZR V3c: Voice Memo

and chose the Options menu to get to this:

Motorola RAZR V3c: Set As Ringtone

Choose option #1 here and you should be able to have your voce recording as a free ringtone for your RAZR!

I've been playing with this myself, trying to get my baby to say something cute like "It's Daddy's Hello!" (she calls telephones "hellos", logically enough) but haven't been ready to make The Big Switch from a more traditional ringtone as of yet.

Hope that helps you out!

Dave you really have a lot of great information. Unfortunatley, I think Verizon is just trying to stop us from doing anything with this phone. I just got the new pink V3c (2/13/06), so it has the newest OS on it. Grrr. Can't do a thing with it (well, except use it as a phone - but where's the fun there). Bluetooth doesn't work with MAC, voice memos and emailed mp3's can't be ringtones (too quiet). (At least I can sync with OnSync.) Do you see any hope for us Mac/Razr users. I thought I was so lucky getting this for (gasp, I know) only $49 and with a FREE bluetooth Headset, but I'm beginning to wonder.

i wanna know how to make a ringer from the voice records on a t. mobile phone or if now can you tell me how to get some anywhere else?

Posted by: steven at July 8, 2006 10:33 PM

I just bought a new RAZR V3 from Cingular. Of course like most Mac addicts, I love to get in and hack my technology. I'd love to have a customized ringtone, but don't want to have to pay. (I mean the phone costs 300 dollars, you shouldn't have to pay more money for customized ringtones.)

So anyway, I see no "Get Tunes and Tones" menu on my phone. Am I SOL? Isn't there a way to send files to the phone using bluetooth. I tried sending an MP3 earlier and it said the file was corrupt and then a WAV which the phone didn't recognize. I haven't tried an AAC, but I am figuring that won't be recognized either.

Could you please post the URL for this article? I can't seem to figure out how to upload an mp3 as a ringtone - I can get it on the phone, but I can't use it as a ringtone.

Posted by: kelly at July 28, 2007 11:59 AM

This does not help me on my razor! my whole screen looks totally different then your examples!

Posted by: BlackAdder at July 29, 2007 5:12 PM

That's because I was running the Verizon operating system on the RAZR when I took these screenshots and you're either running the stock Motorola operating system (or "firmware", depending on what you want to call it) or the version from Cingular/AT&T. I don't know what other carriers have done with the RAZR, but Verizon most definitely wrote its own quite different operating system for this particular phone.

Posted by: Dave Taylor at July 29, 2007 8:21 PM

Hello, this method will not work if you got a V3 Razor from AT&T, but there is a method that will, its on this site:

http://www.games4girls.com/reviews/vringtone.html

It worked like a charm.
