Can I automatically ping Google Blogsearch?

I have a pretty long list of sites that I ping but only recently realized that I have no way of pinging the new Google Blogsearch service when I have a new entry on my MT blog! Is there a way to do this that I just haven't bumped into?

Dave's Answer:

It's only been in the last week that Google announced its ping service for the blogsearch site and even then, the material they've published is pretty confusing. So here's the scoop: what you want to do is add the following to your ping or notification list:

http://blogsearch.google.com/ping/RPC2

Let me show you how I added it to this weblog, which also runs on Movable Type. First, I clicked on "Settings" and got to the general admin section that includes the following navigational bar:

Movable Type Navigational Bar

You want to move to the New Entry Defaults area (as I have done above, actually) then scroll down until you see "Publicity/Remote Interfaces". It'll look like this:

Movable Type Publicity Settings

You can see where to paste in the new Google Blogsearch URL: in the text box labeled "Others:". Do that, then click "Save Changes" and you're done.

That's all it should take for you to be properly notifying Google every time you add a pearl of wisdom to your blog!

Great to hear from you, Jason, and don't worry, whenever I have some personally identifiable information like a license key, I've already modified it in the screen capture to protect my privacy and/or license. :-)

So, how do you figure out the url to ping back to? I have a good handful listed as well at the MT defaults. Is there a list out there I am missing?? Thanks and Happy New Year!
