Where can I get my broken Sony PSP fixed?

Help! My kid sister sat on my Sony PSP and broke the screen. Is there any hope for me? I mean, isn't there somewhere I can get my PSP repaired or fixed other than Sony itself?

Dave's Answer:

I'm impressed. As far as I can tell, you haven't actually crushed your sister, even though she's clearly going to cost you some major bucks fixing your Sony PSP.

Up until a week ago, I have to admit that I'd have just said "you're out of luck: you have to send it to Sony and hope for the best" but a few days ago I bumped into a site called TechRestore and it turns out that they have just the service you want:

Their PSP Screen Repair Service charges only $79: "Our flat-rate PSP LCD screen repair includes everything you need to get your PSP back up and running as quickly as possible. Once we receive your PSP, we will install a brand new replacement LCD screen within 24-hours and send your PSP back to you via Overnight courier."

Cool, eh? TechRestore also has a couple of other services that those of you with bad PSP batteries or just need a new PSP battery will want to know about their PSP Battery Replacement Service. For less than $25, they'll give you a brand new rechargeable battery and send your PSP back the next day.

Finally, one more service to highlight: If something's busted or broken with your Sony PSP, TechRestore also has an Overnight PSP Repair Service: "If your PSP has suddenly died, has no video, won't turn on, won't read discs or some other malady, we're here to help. For general PSP repairs, use our Overnight PSP repair service that includes everything you need to get your PSP back up and running as quickly as possible."

Anyway, the good news is that you have options. If not, you can always just go to Sony Consumer Services, where you'll learn that:

"For technical assistance with the PlayStation 2, PS one, or PlayStation in the U.S. & Canada, please contact SCEA Consumer Service at 1-800-345-SONY (7669) Monday - Saturday 6:00 AM - 8:00 PM PST and Sunday 7:00 - AM 6:30 PM PST in order to thoroughly troubleshoot your problem and for us to assist you."

In any case, good luck getting your PSP fixed and be cool with your sister. It was an accident. Say that a few times more, just in case.

Note: The links to TechRestore are affiliate links: if you use one of their services through my link, I'll make a small commission on the transaction. This helps me keep the digital lights on here in the office and is appreciated. If you'd prefer not to use my affiliate link, please just go to TechRestore.com directly for help.

My psp does not recognize the memory stick sometimes…. Sometimes it’s working then all of a sudden the memory stick does not appear. Or when I am listening to music all of a sudden it says ‘’track cannot be played’’ and my WLAN led stats blinking rapidly and seems that it’s working or reading a file but it’s not doing that. I have to take out the memory stick and put it in again. To work again but will do it regularly and now its getting on my nerves.

Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And tell me what I need to replace and how I can fix it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mom ran over my psp and it is completly broken. The screen cover fell off, the back of it broke and every thing came out. What do i do?

Posted by: zack at May 7, 2008 3:52 PM

Nigel, Zack, etc., I'm sorry to say this, but sometimes electronics get sufficiently broken that there's really not much you can do to fix it and buying a new one really is the cheapest and easiest solution. Sounds like Zack, you in particular should probably work with your Mom to figure out a way to replace it. Nigel, I'd call the repair company I write about on the top of this page: they might well be able to fix your screen for less than a new unit, but that depends on the state of the rest of the PSP. Either way, good luck to you both!
