How can I broadcast a message to my MySpace friends?

Now that I have a few dozen of my friends connected to me on myspace, how do I easily send them all messages about stuff that's going on in my life? Is there some sort of mail capability I can't find?

Dave's Answer:

Actually, in the MySpace world, email is really designed for one-to-one communication. If you want to send a message to all your friends then you should be using a MySpace Bulletin, which is easier to do than it sounds! :-)

Down the left side is your "My Mail" section:

MySpace: My Mail

Click on "post bulletin" and you'll see a simple input form:

MySpace: Post Bulletin

I strongly suggest that you have a descriptive and informative title to your bulletin, because your friends will only see that unless they're sufficiently interested to click through and read the rest of the bulletin message.

Once you've clicked on "Post" you'll actually be shown the bulletin a second time and asked to confirm that you really do want to send the specified bulletin to all of your friends. Finally, you'll get this:

MySpace: Bulletin Posted

That's all there is to it. Now your few dozen closest [MySpace] friends will have a copy of your bulletin in their bulletins list, and hopefully at least some of 'em will read it!

Just wondering if dropping a few lines on the web to some people (maybe trying to make some friends) and getting some in return would cost me anything. Is that considered a blog or a site? What would you call it? Thanks,

Kimberly

I suspect that most people know about the bulletin function. I also suspect that most people don't read bulletins. Some advice on how to do true broadcast email would be excellent. Perhaps some third-party scripts?

This is of no use at all. Dave Taylor, join the 21st Century and realise that pushing bulletins out achieves nothing. Even your loneliest MySpace account holders will have in excess of 50 friends, each of which post bulletins all over the place. NOBODY READS BULLETINS ANY MORE!

Agreed completely. I didn't say that it was a good way to send out messages: the spammers have killed that for everyone. Nonetheless, if someone asks me how to do it, I'll help out. :-)

Dave,

I agree with Kimberly Oct 25 2006.

We want choices. With a bulletin you get hundreds of bulletins a day. Some people over use bulletins. Sending cutsey things or warnings of scams, etc etc. Much like regular email, we are spammed to death with bulletins because they are sent by all our friends on myspace. And are viewed by all on myspace. What I'd like to know is how I can send a simple message to a mass number of friends and be able to eliminate some friends who I don't want the message to get to. I want to be able to choose to block certain friend s from sending certain messages too. Bulletins go to all friends on your list. What if I want to send my address to a dozen of my friends but don't know some of my other friends well enough to do that? Or I want to make an announcement for only my close friends, but don't want to waste the time going to each of their sites to post a personal message. My time is limited. I'd like to be more personal, but time is an issue for most of us these days. Hardly anyone reads there emails anymore because they are too busy on Myspace sending messages or comments and don't have the time to sift through the spam to get to the real messages. I say if we want a better product, the thing everyone needs to do is go to Myspace and flood Toms email asking for a more convenient feature. Heck, I'd pay a few bucks a year to have it added to my site. If the feature was totally convenient with all the whistles and bells. And I don't want my friends to have to pay to read my comments like some sites do.
