How do I become a Google News source?

I'm a big fan of Google News - http://news.google.com/ - and want to know how some blogs have become news sources! How can I have my blog become part of the elite Google News source feed list?

Dave's Answer:

Fascinating question. I've been curious about this for a long time too, so I did a little bit of digging. To start, I went to the very bottom of Google News and clicked on For Publishers, which offers up a wide variety of different questions, including How do I recommend my site for inclusion in Google News?

Google NewsCheck that question and answer out and you'll read their seemingly wide open policy: "If you’d like your site to be included in Google News, please send us the URL and we’d be happy to review it. Please note, however, that we can't guarantee we'll be able to include the site in Google News."

I sent in a request to have this site included, but was rejected because it's a single-author data source. They don't like that! Ungood.

Instead, as a contributor to the splendid Business Blog Consulting.com site, which has about twenty different authors, I thought I'd submit that to Google News and see if it'd make the grade.

I went to the contact page, chose "recommend my source" and submitted the site, including as much data as I could find. Not more than 18 hours later I received the following email from the Google News team:

Hi Dave,

Thank you for your note. We've reviewed www.businessblogconsulting.com and will be adding it to our index for GoogleNews. You should be able to find your articles in GoogleNews within a few weeks. While we'll strive to include as many of your news articles as possible, please be aware that we can't guarantee the inclusion of your content in GoogleNews.

Thank you for providing your articles to GoogleNews.

Regards,
The Google Team

And that's all there is to it!

Now next time you go to Google News and bump into an article on blogging or business, it might just be mine.

I'm afraid I don't remember, sorry to report. Just plug away and every few days do a search for something you've written and one day it'll pop up (hopefully!)
