Is it possible to delete photos from my Ipod, if so ,how. thanks

iPod can be placed into sleep mode only.

Hold play for a few seconds and it will go to sleep, or choose sleep from the main menu.

I have a different problem. MY sons ipod drains the battery while it is turned off and its not the battery. I tried 3 different batteries and I get the same result. The battery will charge and play for 8 to 10 hours but it is completely dead in the morning even after a full charge prior to turning it off.
I called apple and they just said that because I changed the battery myself I voided the warranty. Nice!

I bought my i pod nano about 1 year ago, after using it for about 2 months something happed to it and it stopped working, so i took is to the place i bought it and they changed my old i pod nano into a new one, everything was going fine until i wanted to update new songs, so i plugged it into my computer and all of my songs erased and there was only 3 songs remaning in my list, eveytime y want to put in another song it says the memory is full.. and i only have 3 song, can u please tell me how to fix this because its getting really annoying!!!!!!thank you

Here's what works on the 20-60G iPod to reboot it when it won't shut off: Pull it out of the case, press on the center button and the top wheel button (menu) at the same time with your thumb - hold for 6-10 seconds.

You don't need to turn hold on and off again.

My iPod tends to freeze up when I have been playing large, segmented podcasts (1 hour or more).

I have a new nano that is about 1 week old. Today, I enjoyed a nice autumn run in perfect sunny 60 degree weather with my nano. When I returned, I turned the nano off with almost a full battery, and didn't connect it to any power source (computer or plug). Now it says "Charging". It cannot be charging because it isn't connected to anything. I have reset it, but no change. By the way, all the nano software and itunes are new and updated, so that isn't the problem. Would you diagnose the problem and offer a fix? Many thanks!!

I'm hearing lots of people complaining about this recently (and it's happening to my wife). Everything functions correctly except for powering off. A factory restore seemed to resolve it, but the problem returned the next day. I'm thinking we may be looking at a firmware bug that Apple needs to address.

Popular post. For what it's worth, I've had my two-weeks-old Nano lock-up (freeze) on me a couple times already. So far, it has only happened when I go to play a podcast. This just happened as soon as I hit play.

As far as the guidance from Apple, it works just fine. I suspect the "slide the hold switch on and off" is a kluge to make sure the hold switch is really turned off, as one of the previous commenters say.

I bought an apple nano strictly to use with audio books via audible.com. How do I delete audio books from the ipod? I tried the suggestion that apparently works for deleting songs (ranking books as one star then re-syncing, which did not work).

My son's nano resets and is recognized by the computer but the click wheel isn't responsive and clicking on the buttons doesn't work either. I can't seem to find advice for this problem anywhere. Can you help?

Jacque, is it possible that the nano has its "hold" switch in the wrong position? That would freeze out the interface just as you describe...

It's the slider on the top left of the unit: if you can see orange, your Nano is in "hold" status and you need to slide it so that the orange is hidden. (Shuffles use green behind the switch for the same function, amusingly. Guess Apple can't quite standardize on a color for this function)

I moved the hold switch to on and then off again several times when I tried to reset the nano but with no luck. I'm guessing that something within the click wheel broke and will have to be replaced.

I'm having a big problem with my ipod nano. It never stop charging!!!. In http://www.apple.com/batteries/ipods.html there is a special image when your ipod has a very low battery, that's exactly the same image that i see when i plug my ipod to my computer( to be honest i have tried in three different computer and with two cables to connect to the ipod to the usb ).
The most strange situation is that besides i left my ipod charging 6 hours it is still with the same image of low battery!!!.

Hi. I bought a ipod nano for Christmas. I bought it new on ebay but when I opened it there was already a whole list of songs on it under the name of "tiffany's ipod". So, I'm not the first person to get ripped off on Ebay, right ? Anyway, all my ipod has is a white screen. I can download songs on it and it will play songs for a short time. I am assuming a bad battery for the short length of play time but what about the white screen ? Any ideas ??

why does my ipod video don't turn off and how can i fix the problem ?

I have an audio book on my nano, but when I want to fast forward to where I was last time, my ipod stops and just goes to some random spot at the beginning of the book. I have tried downloading different copies of the book, but the same thing happens, the book fastforwards fine if I play it off of my macbook.

Josh, do you have "shuffle" mode enabled? Do you have "repeat all tracks" and is your audio book split into multiple tracks? You can move to a specific spot on a track with an iPod: you need to push the center button while you're listening, then the bar changes from showing volume to showing your progress into the track. Spin the wheel and you should be able to move the diamond indicator back and forth in the track to the desired spot. Once you're there, push the center button again and you'll hop to that point and keep playing. Hope that makes sense! :-)

Hey, can someone please help me. I've had my iPOd for about 2 months. Its a silver nano. (2 GB) Well anyways this morning, like normal I turned it on to see if it had changed the time, because of daylight saving, but it hadn't so I changed the time. Everything was perfectly normal, so I turned it off. About 5 minutes later I turned on my computer, and started look through pictures to add to my iPod. Like normal, I plugged it in. Usually iTunes would pop up, but for some reason this morning it didn't. So i checked the iPOd, and you know how it usually says Do not disconnect, it didn't. The screen was black. It wasn't on hold, and I've tried everything. Please tell me how i can fix this.

that hold on/off thing is bullcrap, i tried it so many times, and then i realized that hold would cancel the menu/select function. it worked without hold being switched on/off. apple needs to learn about their own products

I have seen your advice about resetting but I'm deathly afraid to try it. Does this erase anything on your iPod? I have no podcasts, no audio books, just regular music. It wouldn't turn off after I got out of my truck this morning. (about 4 hours ago) I tried the computer plug in trick, no luck. I updated everything. I've had it since Sept 06 and it has always worked fine. I don't play it all day long but I work out (30-40 min) and the drive to and from work (40 Min), with weekends sometimes but not long.

Had the same problem with the Nano I got for Christmas...won't shut off and keeps freezing. Thankfully I figured out how to reset it (I love the instruction booklet that came with it...could it have been any more useless?). Just updated iTunes and hope that helps. Also changed my settings so that I can choose when to put it to sleep with a click of the wheel. Definitely an issue with the iPod that needs to be fixed!

Hi i recenly bought an ipod and the second day i had it the scren just broke for no reason. I can only see it if i sqeeze the ipod quite tightly, before it fades away, and when i m not, there are very thin red lines on the top half and very thin verticle red lines on the bottom half. I have an ipod Nano. I've been synching my photos via iTunes, but it doesn't take all the photos. Photos are in a separate folder specifically for this and all photos in subfolders, ipod sees all folders but not all photos have been transferred. Its taken tiffs and jpgs and files of different sizes.

Any ideas?

Well DAve, the mini restarted just now! I got the battery level to zero, connected to power with charger, kept forward button pressed HARD for around ten seconds et...voilà! Bizarre. Maybe this could help somebody else!
And this brings me to ask you: Will I be better off buying a stereo that allows me to connect my mini through the Aux port as opposed to a dock station, given that an actual dock station caused the problem in the first place? Would the sound be equally good? Do u have any model to recommend with radio and remote control?

I use my home computer to recharge and upload songs with the Itunes. However, I have a computer in work that hasnt Itunes software installed. Can i use my work pc and any other computer to simply recharge the battery on my Ipod Nano without erasing the tracks stored on the Ipod?
Say, if I travel abroad and Im at a friennds, can I connect the IPOD readily to a pc and let the battery recharge, as long as the pc isnt on hibernate mode?

I had the same problem with my Video Ipod (won't power off when you hold down the play button) and after hours of trying to get it to power off ; (doing everything other than a restore) and nothing at all worked. I was starting to think about how much it would cost for the Apple Store to look at my Ipod ; which made me almost loose breakfast because the problem is so stupid. It's like the unit doesn't even respond to the hold down of the play button. Believe me, I tried everything I could think of.

Then I ran an ipod restore in iTunes - which completely restores the ipod to factory specs ; and it worked! Is this a firmware bug guys ?? I was using the latest apple ipod firmware ; and it worked perfectly after I restored the ipod.

I have a green nano that has stopped playing music. well actually whats its doing is playing them super super slow. like 1 second of play per minute. Ive tried other songs and same thing. I've reformated the drive, reinstalled the software and then reloaded my songs and still the same thing. It powers off and on, the battery seems good, it doesnt freeze. I can go back and select another song but still plays super slow. No sounds comes out except for a quick little chirp every minute. Anyone have any clue?

Help!! My Ipod Nano never turns off. It looks like it is off but the battery is always running down even then. I've turned the sleep mode on but still it runs the battery down while it is supposedly off. I turn it off and slide the hold key but still it runs down on the battery and as soon as I turn it back on it shows the current song it is playing (while it was supposedly off).

I've just got a refurbished 4g Nano, and I've had it on shuffle. I got a little carried away fast-forwarding, (a little too quickly), and now its frozen. I've tried toggling the hold button. Holding the menu, middle circle and play/pause button for the reccomended time but it remains frozen. Further more, it won't respond to my computer when I plug it in. I thought, becaue it needs charging it might "wake up", but the computer doesn't even acknowledge its been plugged into it, and my ipod is NOT charging!

I had my nano this morning refuse to turn off after dozens of reset attempts (which have worked in the past).

For Windows (XP) users, the following my help. Plug your iPod back into your computer, start iTunes, let it sync then close iTunes. Even though iTunes said, "Okay to Disconnect", go down to the system tray and hit the little green/gray USB device arrow thingy (and the fact that I can only describe it as such is a sad tribute to Windows), select the USB Mass Storage device and click "Stop".

It appears that if you disconnect the iPod without unmounting its disk from Windows, it can hang. Cleanly disconnecting it from Windows this way fixed my problem immediately.

After reading this page, my iPod nano STILL won't turn off. I had trouble with it for a couple months but after a few tries I could get it to go off. Now I can't AT ALL!!! Please HELP!!! Thanx

Awesome! Took a few trys of toggeling the Menu and play for a while but worked! Mine also kept coming up with a message saying that it was incorrectly connected to a firewire port even though it wasn't.

my problem was "M-W Pocket Dictionary" you have to wait until it loads all text before your ipod will turn off... and I had used restore thinking thats what I needed to do...

I got my ipod for Christmas(2006) and it broke this year in July. They are supposed to have a 1 year warranty. so we sent it in to a guy we know and he said that it was just a ''bad one'' Can I send it in to the apple company and get another for atleast no cost?

Older iPods (I have two of 'em!) are reset with a slightly different approach:

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
Press and hold the Play/Pause and Menu buttons until the Apple/iPod logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.

hey, my ipod nano just stopped working, it wouldnt turn off and it wouldnt charge or anything.

heres what i did: i plugged it into the wall and held down the select and menu buttons. now, you can plug it into a computer to do this if you want, but then it deletes all your music (or so ive heard). however, its up to you. hope this helps!

My iPod Nano, Generation 3, will not shut off. It is not frozen, and I have tried the reset (play and select buttons) numerous time and it still will not work. Help!

I have a 4GB 1st gen nano. Sometimes, the sleep command from the menu doesn't do a goddamn thing. When it doesn't, it won't automatically go to sleep or anything. Rather, the next time I want to listen to some music (say, a half day later), I will find my previously fully-charged ipod completely drained and in need of a recharge. However, holding down the play button seems to work. So, screw the menu option.

I've been whining about it since I bought the ipod a year ago, but still no firmware update to correct this issue.

I thought it was broken. Was about to buy a knew one because it wouldnt turn off. thanks man you helped out.

tomato soup got on my daughtrers ipod nano while it was on. not submerged. but wet. the hold button stopped worked as well as the pause button. now there is only a white screen and we cannot shut it off or reboot it, help!

adding to the last one, the computer wont recognize the ipod anymore either. last night when i got home, i immediately plugged it up, got all my songs in order, and put them on the ipod. i let the songs upload to the ipod over night [about 250 songs] and this morning when i un-plugged the ipod, it went straight to the apple screen, shut off, went back to apple screen...and kept doing it. so i blew it off like it was nothing, plugged it back up, PC doesnt recognize it, realized im late for school, so left it plugged up to PC. when i got home, it was still going to the apple screen and shutting off and going back to apple screen constantly...i'd really appreciate some help. please email me:

Ok. I charged ipod and it was running on a full a battery so I put it to sleep and when I came back home like an hour later it wouldn't even turn on(the battery was dead???) and if I plug it up for five seconds and take it off it is fully charged!!!! What the heck is wrong with this thing???

The center button on my daughter's Nano 2nd gen stopped working. Everything else is fine, including batt. It is out of warranty and I tried all the reset tricks to no avail. Short of sending it in, have you heard of or know the procedure to remove the case? I am an electronic tech and have all the resources, just need to know any particulars. I believe that the center switch is oxidized from little sweaty palms and I may be able to burnish it clean,

iPod Nano (30 GBs) as previously done using the iPodRip App.
I received a message saying that the app. iPodRip suddenly quit.
The only way I could get rid of the message or do anything further,
I had to force quit the iPodRip appliction. I then RESTARTED, but
the same message & results. I do remember, without thinking,
disconnecting the iPod Nano pre-maturely & fearing that I would
lose over 3,500 songs. I was quite nervous. Everything did appear
to be the same until this AM with the iPodRip. Is this possibly the
reason for my problems with the iPodRip app? Any help to this

Hello Again. I for got to mention that I continue to the get the same
iPodRip messages and the infamous "continuing BEACHBALL". Its
non-stop each time I have tried to open & re-open iPodRip until
I FORCE QUIT. Thankyou

Hi, I'm having quite a few problems with my 30gb iPod Video. I've had it for two years and it was working fine until about a month ago, when I let the battery drain all the way. It was never the same again after that, and a replacement battery didn't fix the problems that arose, which are: It won't hold a charge; even if it's fully charged in a couple of hours it won't turn on at all. Also, when I disconnect it from the computer it shuts itself off like it has been reset, only it won't turn itself back on like it would in a reset. The date and time, etc, need to be reset each time I unplug it from the computer and it turns off. I opened the iPod back up to make sure the new battery was properly connected and it seemed fine. What's the matter with my iPod?

I plugged my Nano in to my Mac to sync it up to iTunes. Then I left it plugged in so it would charge up. When I returned later on I found that my computer had gone into sleep mode and my Nano screen was lit up but blank. It will not show any info and it will not turn off. Any ideas on how to fix this? Dave, I have a 4gb Nano that refuses to play all my songs. When I put it to shuffle, it will skip over some songs. If I directly select some songs or compilations, it will either completely skip over the song and go to the next one it can pick up, or it will just keep going thru all the songs for that artist and not play anything. I've updated software, completely removed all the songs and reloaded them, but still not working.

Everytime i turn my ipod off and leave it,
it automaticly starts playing

Daaaaave! Heeeeeelp meeeee! I had my iPod plugged into my computer, and I was putting album art onto it for one song, and my iPod screen went completely white. I reset it and the Apple logo would flash on and off, and when I plugged it back into my computer my computer couldn't detect that it was there! It also wouldn't shut off, so I had to let the battery die. The only problem now is that I can't charge it to turn it back on! Do you know whats wrong and how I could fix it?

Ok Big Problem. I have had my Ipod Nano 2nd Generation for about 18 months. I recently washed it in my jeans pocket. When I took it out, It was totally unresponsive. As it dried out, the screen appeared faintly on when plugged into auxiliary power. Eventually it dried and all features now work fine when plugged into my docking station. It is also recognized on my computer. But IT WON"T TURN ON. As soon as I disconnect it from power, it dies and doesn't turn on. HELP PLEASE!

hey man, i went and bought an ipod docking station in my room only to come home and find that my ipod no longer will let me use the buttons. i am able to reset it and everything but it will not let me elect anything from the menu or even scroll up or down. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Today i faced the same problem my nano(1st generation nano) does not sleep after i hold down the play/pause button and i tried the steps mentioned by dave above but with no use. Later, i tried to see if there was a sleep option from the menu, so when i checked the main menu the sleep was OFF i clicked on it and it said ON next to sleeP. After that i held down the play/pause like i normally do and it worked! I dont remember ever turning the sleep OFF from the main menu, so i dunno how it got switched to OFF but its working now ..

Some ppl who said the steps above didnt work with them might give this a try it ...

Thanks for your info on how to reset my iPod nano - i thought it was toast because it wouldn't play any songs... it appeared to be working fine and when i tried to play the songs the play symbol would be there but the song progression bar would never move! My Ipod won't work now ever since i updated its software. Now my itunes tells me i need the latest version of itunes, but unfortunately i cannot get service pack 2 because i borrowed the windows xp cd from a friend cause i cannot afford the cd from a store. My ipod nano 3g froze up on the "do not disconnect" screen after I properly ejected it. I manually reset it (holding the menu and select buttons) but i did not toggle the "hold" switch. I'd like to say that though I enjoy using them when they function,
EVERY SINGLE product I've ever gotten from Apple has broken down in some way or another. EVERY ONE.
I use a lot of tech devices and haven't had any other company with a similarly miserable record of failure. Not close honestly. All praise for apple on innovation and none for execution.
The total cost of unremedied products I've bought from Mac that have crapped out is well over 3 grand, including my
macbook and 2 ipods. All crapped out, and each time had to be replaced completely at MY cost.
It's unbelievable the lack of support from Apple too. The worst thing is that there are a ton of Mac accolytes out there, that no matter how many times aple screws them, still stay loyal to the brand. Remember those people waiting outside Mac stores for the new iphone when it first arrived. Remember how they were sold a shoddy beta level product and then left in the lurch? That's just the tip. I remember when my girlfriend Mac laptop was overheating so severly after being on for a half hour that the bottom was too hot to touch. You know what apple told us? They said "It's not a laptop... It's a mobile desktop.
Perfect example of how Apple treats people, like idiots. Buy these products at your own risk,and yes, at this very moment I cannot turn my ipod off nor my macbook on. Never had this problem with TEXAS INSTRUMENTS but somehow I have it with mac! Don't drink the coolaid.

My Ipod Nano wasnt switching off,thot I had messed it up and then read this piece of information in this article, where you can turn it off even through the main menu (an option in the settings).... the "Sleep" option . When I navigated there, saw that the "sleep" option was turned off and hence the ipod was not turning off when i was holding the play/pause button. Turned it on and its working fine! My ipod seems to be frozen. I'm not sure the model, I got it at Christmas, 2007 so whatever model was out then. I know it's not a nano cause my daughter has one. I've tried pressing and holding "MENU" and "Play/Pause" buttons but to no avail. I've also slid the button to hold for 10 seconds and back and pressed button combination. Nothing seems to work. The ipod show Track 12 and it appears to be 16 seconds into it and just plain froze. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have an Ipod Nano 3rd generation 8GB.
I have the grey screen with white apple constantly on.
I have tried reboot ie menu + main button for 6 secs but reboots to same screen. My laptop wont recognise it either in itunes or as a drive.
I have tried running battery down and then plugging into laptop, this just gives me back my grey screen with white apple.
Is there anything else you can think of that may help?
Currently has a picture of a battery with yellow exclaimation mark saying connect to power!

Until recently I have had no problems with my Ipod Nano 4gb. It plays and all is normal. My problem is that I can no longer plug it into my usb ports on my computers. Both my pc and laptop do not recognize it being plugged in. I am no longer able to sync it and add music. This has not been a problem since I have had it,instead its something that has started over the last few weeks. I know my usb ports are okay because my flash drives work in them. Can you please give me some idea as to what to check or what to do?

I was listening to my ipod and suddenly it shut down. When I press the play button it shows that the battery was down. I plugged it but since the apple logo comes back on and off. My iPod, doesn't sleep. I press the play/pause button for a couple of seconds, it turns off, but within like 3 seconds or less, it is back on again, unless I turn on the Hold switch...If i don't turn on the hold switch, the entire battery is drained :(

The next day we now have new "playlists" with each of our names on it created by itunes. idk why. My 2nd generation iPod Shuffle (late 2008 model) is playing slowly off and on, as if it was a cassette tape with the tape messed up. Is this fixable? Help! (I've already tried "resetting" it.

what happened to my ipod? i would only see the apple logo when i connect the ipod to the computer to charge, after 1 or 2 seconds the apple logo dissapear and some words appear 1 or 2 seconds. then nothing else can be seen except a logo telling me do not disconnect. normally if i disconnect the ipod from my computer it cannot be switched on.

Generic advice for many of the problems people are listing here: restore your iPod within iTunes and resync it again to copy the music across again. I find that I have to restore my ipod (and iPhone!!) about every 2-3 months to keep it happy and functional. Kinda stinks, but not the worst solution in the world.

Once you've done so, pick a song that you've bought and it should reauth the device without you losing an authorization out of the precious five that you're allowed.

Finally, if you're experiencing hardware problems with your iPod, I strongly suggest you look for a local Apple store and make an appt to show them what's going on. Lots of times they have simple fixes and sometimes will just *replace* your iPod with a new one if it's under Applecare, etc. Start at http://store.apple.com/

Okay...my ipod completely stopped working a few minutes ago, so I tried plugging it into the computer to charge....but it didn't do anything, in fact...it made the computer freeze. I tried restarting the computer twice but the computer refused to start until I unplugged the ipod...what am I supposed to do now?

Okay now my ipod decided to turn on by itself...and it is weird because it is fully charged even though it was half charged before it froze >.< should I just assumme that is enough time for it to charge fully? and should I consider it turning on by itself normal?

I bought the new Ipod Nano 16gb when it was released and last month had to take it back to store to get a relacement as randomly the Ipod wouldnt turn on at the end of the day, (despite the fact I had used it that morning). At first I thought maybe it had been turned on in my pocket and therefore a dead battery, but when I returned home and was unable to charge the Ipod, I tried to do system restore via the Itunes software, however this was unable to complete the restore and the ipod still would not work.

After taking back to store they have replaced the Ipod nano with another and this morning, (3weeks later)the same fault has happened. There is no reason that I can see for this to occur, the Ipod was working last night when I returned home, but when I awoke this morning it wouldnt work at all.

Can you advise is this a common occurenece and is there a fix for it, I have tried the reset you had suggested to other users and I have tried teh restore factory settings via Itunes and yet again it was unable to do so, can you help as this is getting very frustrating????

Nathan, I haven't heard of that being a common problem, so I'm not sure what to advise, honestly. I'd take it back to Apple and ask them what the heck's going on and see what they suggest. It's a huge pain.

Rufus, you can use a third party app to work with your iPod, but it's a pretty unsatisfying experience from what I've seen. If you have your own computer and want to uncouple from your brother, I'd suggest you get a third party app like Senuti (mac) and copy all the music off your iPod onto your computer, then let iTunes wipe and reformat your iPod, then add all your music back. Now you're coupled with the computer you want. It's a pain, yes, but that's just da way it is.

ok. I have the new ipod nano with a camera on ir for christmas and i was charging the battery and all of a sudden, it uploaded all the songs i had on my computer and all the pictures i had on the computer(which is like 488 pics.)I was wondering how do you delete stuff on this ipod.

Quinn, sounds weird. When you have iTunes running and you plug in your iPod, you should see it show up on the left side of the window. Now, click on it, then click on the "Music" tab: do you see your songs? If so, try deleting them...

Hi Dave. Help needed to transfer music from ipod to laptop.
I have an ipod nano (8gb)for music only. It connects to my car radio.
I connected it to my lap top and installed/used itunes which was no problem. Sorted my play-lists and changed the music occasionally such as xmas songs.
Problem? I bought a new lap top, installed itunes and tried to sync my music from ipod to new laptop. No go, so I checked help files and found something about transferring a play-list xml file from old lap-top to the new lap top to solve the problem. It didn't work. The play-list titles transferred but not the music. Tried to sync the ipod and new lap-top complete with the new play-list titles, but it didn't make any difference. The only sync options available wanted to wipe my ipod, my only source of music now as I've inadvertently lost the music from my old lap-top.
Is there any way to transfer my music from ipod to new lap-top please.

Graham, you need to use a third party application: iTunes doesn't let you grab music off an iPod that isn't already sync'd with the computer. A common pain. Look here for more info:

Joey, plug it in and leave your iPod for an hour or two, then try it. If it's still completely dead, I'd call up Apple or pop by an Apple Store and talk with them. Good luck!

Its happened again this week I've followed all your instructions and it still wont come on properley. This is a work ipod....I am not sure what happened but one of my cowrkers said he would add new song. I couldn't get my iPod Nano 8GB (wide screen with click wheel) to reset until I read this. The thing that helped me was actually laying it on a table and resetting it by pushing the Menu button (upper) and center button simultaneously with two different fingers. Ok, first of all my ipod all of a sudden wouldn't turn on one day. We have an ipod 4th gen. Person who did this, I could kiss you! A friend gave me his old ipod b/c the screen was broken, and I've just never had the cash to get it fixed. But I just keep it on random and I know how to turn it on and off, and adjust the volume, no worries. Until it just crashed and I couldn't get it to even be reconized by the computer b/c it was on. You totally just saved my day! 5 hour drive tomorrow with no music would be my personal hell. So thank you!

I see you have many, many comments and questions but if you could please spare a moment? I got a 2nd Gen nano that christmas that it was brand new and now im starting to have problems with it. I have tried getting apple help but i refuse to pay like $40 for them to tell me that there's nothing I can do...Anyway so I plug it into the computer and the ipod will charge and act like its plugged in but the computer won't recognize it. I went through the device manager, cause apple said to, but it wont even show up there. Is there anything I can do? I thought it might be the cord so we got a new one and it has not changed anything. Is it finally dying after so long? or has the software changed to much for it to keep up with? I don't know if this is relavent but I'll throw it in just in case..My ipod has sustained water damage and the screen won't light up anymore but this was several months before my computer stopped recognizing it.

Monte, if your iPod is only five months old, you should definitely be able to take it into the Apple Store and have them help you out with it, without any $$ being involved. It's covered by a one-year warranty.

Erin, if you can't restart it with the steps outlined in this article, I surmise that your iPod has a busted button. :-( Talk to Apple about getting it fixed (or a third party). Good luck!

I can't believe it! I've been having the same problem with my 1st generation Nano for the past several months: Won't properly turn off; battery being run down; erroneous messages about "Firewire" etc. I've rebooted the darn thing hundreds of times in the last few months, with no luck. And then, all of a sudden, completely on its own, like a miracle...the thing started working properly once again. It turns off, no more "Firewire" messages...I don't know why or what, but I now believe in God.

I have a 16g 5th generation ipod nano and sometimes after a song is finished playing it'll repeat the song for 20 seconds but it plays it faster also when i pick a song to play the screen will show the song i picked but it will play a different song please help Thank You.

ipod 1st gen. locked up while playing a song. No interaction with click wheel. Reset by apple's suggestion which it did. Now on language setting screen and cannot select using click wheel. I believe the click wheel is working as I can reset ipod by using the click wheel. Any suggestions?

I tried resetting and restoring but it won't work.

I recharge it but then the battery goes really quick because it's constantly on.

My Ipod Nano was gifted to me about a year ago, I started to use it only now. what I have noticed is that, the ipod comes on when it is connected to my laptop and plays just fine, but as soon as I disconnect the ipod, it turns off even though I have charged it for more than 5 hours, I am not sure what to do, whether I have to change the battery or charge it for a longer period because I am using it for the first time. Please help me out here.

Hi Dave, I was listing to radio on my nano. the battery was almost empty. when i tried to switch off, the screen wasn't working n pressing any keys didnt do anything. i let it play till battery was depleted. after I conected it to my deck to charge and was then working fine, now the problem is that the screen is always on. all options, lock works but it wont simply go to sleep. plz help

I've had problems with the play/pause button on my Ipod nano (3rd generation) for quite some time. Someone suggested I try blowing into the USB port on the ipod to remove any dust that may have accumulated. It worked like a charm.

I bought my girlfriend's ipod (generation 4 16GB) for her April or May 2009 (no extended warranty) and it's worked great...until now. It powers on & shows the "backlighting" for about 5 seconds and then goes dark. Scroll button unresponsive. Cannot hold Menu/Center button to reset because the scroll wheel is shot. BUT, when it's attached to the USB on the car stereo it plays normally, alphabetically, but scroll wheel does nothing.

I've backed up all the songs (1964 tracks) up on my/her computer because the Apple Store said "We need to remove all the songs to diagnose the problem." This seems utterly ridiculous, the scroll wheel is clearly the problem. Anyway, after calling them today I'm told they don't replace the scroll wheel "on that model." I inquired as to why they don't service what they sell and she said "We may be able to replace it for a fee." I don't want to pay them for a product they won't service and pay their "fee" of $250 or whatever that "fee" will be (God help anyone under warranty or a warranty extension). Thanks for any and all info you can provide.

After changing the LCD on our generation 2 ipod I don't want to risk damaging our generation 4. Where/how can I get the scroll wheel replaced? After this experience and 100's if not 1000's of consumer complaints in Apple's "forum" or "support group" on this EXACT SAME PROBLEM (not being solved or even replied to by Apple) I will NEVER buy another Apple product. Too bad the iphone's coming to Verizon next month and I will be sure NOT TO BUY IT nor will I support our company (Praxair 27,000 employees and operations in 40 countries) buying an iphone. I was looking at these comments, and I was surprised to find that some people have the same problem as me: The backlight won't turn off and the iPod screen won't go to sleep (after I had done the reset thing covered on this website). It seems like a lot of people (myself included) have this problem, and it drains the battery like crazy (I lost half my fully charged battery in several hours)! I use my iPod at school, so if you could find a way to solve this problem, I'd be glad to try it out!

My iPod touch (4th generation) is stuck in a zoomed-in mode. Its on the lock screen, but I can't type in my password since its so close up. It stays zoomed in even if I turn it off and then back on. I have no clue how it got this way ):

Carly, try holding down the top power button and the home button for at least 30 seconds. During that time it'll show you the "Slide to Power Off" slider: keep holding it and ignore that. It'll go black then start up again with the Apple logo. Should fix the problem.

hello, i havent used my ipod nano in ages and i resently found it after not using it for at least 10 months.. i have tried to turn it on and it doesnt seem to be coming on.. i had the charger when i first descovered that the ipod werent turning on.. so? i tried to charge it and it still didnt come on then? should i waste my money on getting a new charger? get it looked at? or just buy a new one? I have a 6th gen 8G iPod Nano, which I've had for about a year and a half, and it's fully updated (so is iTunes on my PC) and for that entire year and a half, it has behaved perfectly until last week--when I discovered a weird problem. I have a few albums that are sort of "rock-opera" style and the songs on these albums are best played in order. However, my Nano seems to feel otherwise. I will choose the album, tap the first song on the list, and it will play the aforementioned song, then shuffle to another song. I don't choose the "Shuffle" option from the album menu. I have the "Shake to Shuffle" option turned off. It's never done this before. Ideas?

I have an IPOD Nana 6th gen. with alot of songs on it. My desktop computer got a virus and when I got it back ITUNES and all my songs were gone.
