How do I add a MySpace friend if they don't have an "add as friend" link?

I went on the link on how to add a friend on MySpace. I have never had a problem before but there is one profile of these guys I went to high school with that I want to add, but I have searched their page and can't find an "add as friend" link. They don't have the box of icons like most profiles do. Any ideas?

Dave's Answer:

That's an interesting question, I must say! Fortunately, we can do a tiny bit of MySpace hacking and figure this out.

First step is to notice that every single MySpace profile has a unique numeric identifier, their friendID.

For example, checking my "want to be friends" queue on MySpace, it appears that a young English woman named Riley wants to be friends with me. When I check, the URL associated with her particular profile is:

http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?
fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=234822800

You can see the "friendid" there: 234822800.

Now go to a profile where you can see the "Add to Friends" link, and you'll notice that the URL underneath the link is:

http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=invite.addfriend_verify&
friendID=234822800&MyToken=f23a7725-7778-4185-a090-53daf0b0792f

In this case, you can dump the "MyToken" junk on the end as it'll be automatically be added by MySpace itself as needed. Now the URL looks like this:

http://collect.myspace.com/index.cfm?
fuseaction=invite.addfriend_verify&friendID=234822800

To create an instant "Add to Friends" link, simply replace the friendID in the above URL with the ID of your friend's profile.

For example, my own friendID is 65108791 so if this is all correct then copying and pasting the edited URL below into your Address Bar of your browser should let you add me as a friend:

Try it. We can become friends, along with everything else! :-)

I thought I'd point out to you that the "add friend" link can also be found in the google toolbar at the top of the page, in the drop down menu which is titled "Shortcuts"

Posted by: gigi at December 27, 2007 5:24 PM

Also if you are using Firefox as your web browser,
you can also go: View>Page Style>No Style
doing that it gets rid off all css/html/dhtml that is on the persons profile, then you scrole down tell about half way where you will find the contact box

and to undo this just do the same except of cliking No Style click Basic Page Style

Remenber for firefox browser users only
downloads firefox here www.firefox.com

i hope i have helped
email me at dan_may_@hotmail.com if you need anymore help.
